  • has this happend to anyone?

    I was woundering
    do any of you guys here get a bad sparring/workout day? I had a horrible sparring day yesterday, I couldnt focus and I got hit alot due to me not being able to focus 100%. I hate admiting this but inside of me I tell myself its ok to have a bad day in the gym its goona happen you just have to move along and work and get better. But inside deep down in me I still feel that little disapointment in myself. Is this normal? or am I suppose to not be disapointed?

      yesterday i had a horrible day as well. I got hurt for the first time by a hook to the body. After that i got a little scared to throw as much cause i was afraid of getting countered again.

        Yea dude, totally normal. I won my first fight by tko on Friday and I was unstoppable. I went back to the gym tuesday and sparred five rounds and didn't do so good. I was a little tired and couldn't concentrate. Your body isn't like a machine that you just put oil in and it runs the same every time. Keep in shape, figure out what to do next time, get in there and do it.

          Yeah, some days are just not your days. Bad sleep or maybe personal problems or bad food could do that to you.

            I got ****ing owned in a sparring session a couple of weeks ago. As if that wasn't bad enough, it was the first -- and probably the last -- time my wife dropped in to see me work out. She just showed up after church, hoping to give me a smooch and see what all the fuss is about. She had never seen me box, BTW.

            As it was a Sunday, the only other guy who was there to spar and wasn't a total noob had 6" of height on me, and a half dozen amateur bouts under his belt. And he beat the crap out of me, and did a great job of making me look ******, too. I was missing hooks and getting clocked; at one point I took an uppercut to the solar plexus and then another one to the chin and got knocked back about three steps. . . . he stops for a sec, I straighten my headgear, and through my blurry eyes I see my wife, by the door, wincing in sympathy.

            I threw it back at him, harder. And got owned, harder. And on it went. Longest three rounds of my life.

              this happens to me everytime i freakin tell someone to come check me out! why and i mean whyyyyyyyyyyy does **** like this happen?

                I think it's good for you, in the long run. I mean, for instance, it's better that I get owned in sparring before I end up against this guy in the ring for real, which I will in another year or so. He could seriously hurt me, like KTFO, busted ribs, etc. in a real match if we were to go toe to toe full-speed tomorrow. He's been at it for about five years longer than me, and he's ten times better from a skills perspective. I actually hit harder than he does -- I'm physically stronger and a more gifted hitter -- but he outboxes me: he's smart, very fast, and his technique is exceptional; he's a classic boxer, whereas I'm a brawler/swarmer. Don't get me wrong; I feel I box fairly well for only having a little over a year of serious training, but I have a LONG way to go. And getting my ass kicked once in a while helps keep it in perspective.

                Keep your chin down and your spirits up. It only hurts for a few days.

                  thats rough man, I had almost something like that. Ive only sparred 5 times so far, I dont have a trainer and normally go to the gym in the morning and theres two trainers (ex fighters Kelcie Banks and Merqui Sosa)there in the morning that I talk to about boxing and theyve been wanting to train me and I joke with them etc, well normally they leave around 6pm and two other trainers come in. One of the trainers that came at night asked me to spar a lighter guy thats a pro and it was my fiirst time sparrin and everyone came up to me afterward sayin I did real good and they were impressed, those two trainers from the morning werent there though.

                  So the next day the same trainer asks me to spar another guy who has no fights like me but has been trainin for awhile, and for some reason both Sosa and Banks were there long after they normally leave. I tried a different headgear and gloves for this sparring session it it was horrible. The Headgear was way to big completely covered my face, Banks was makin fun of it, the guy was throwin BOMBS and everytime he hit me my headgear shifted all around and I had to spin it, then the gloves seemed heavier than others ive used and it pretty much played out with me being tired getting drilled and then backing up trying to fix my headgear and then getting drilled again and then backin away fixin my headgear over and over and over again. I managed to throw some 1-2s in everyonce in awhile though. I also did hurt the guy bad with a body shot. Overall I took a beating though and it was the first sparrin the two trainers I see all time saw.

                  oh well, no pain no gain man. That aint nothin...

                    We all have good days and bad days, but it is a good idea to reduce the amplitude of the swing. Have any of you ever seen videos of Zab Judah training? Compare them with videos of Floyd Mayweather and you will see a very different level of intensity. Mayweather trains harder and more serious in the gym and that is why he fights harder and more seriously in the ring. The key to consistency is discipline. Judah only performs well when he is in the mood whereas Mayweather performs well nearly every fight. They have equal talent, but it takes more than talent to win fights.
