  • im ready !

for the past 6 months, ive been training like im training for a world title fight.

but ive been training for no fight, only to begin my journey in the fight game..

a year ago i was an out of shape smoker/drinker, who just partyed and ate a lot and ****, didnt care about exercise or sports.. ever since i started training for boxing, it was mainly to let my anger out and punches due to stress at home, troubled teen years.. but boxing has helped me get through so much and it has changed me and made me a better person, and i always knew i had what it takes to fight, and now im READY, and im joining my gym next month and starting my amatuer boxing career asap, we will get all the paperwork and **** worked out, i dont know how that works but that will be done in may/june, and im gunna be sucking in all the gym knowledge from may-sept and hopefully by september ill have a fight under my belt.

im so hungry and ready to box, im first off a fan of the sport and a student to the game, i admire any boxer who can pull off a nice victory and i cannot wait to get in there.

im 20 at the end of may. so ill be entering the gym, and begin training and sparring right when i turn 20...

i might wanna go pro, but thats something only time can tell... until now i plan to stay in the amatuers for 2-4 years. i have no goals to become an amatuer champion or tourny winner / trophy winner, none of that, i just want amatuer experience, to learn and fight, and be in all types of boxing matches. wars, boxing outside speed fights, drop guys and watch em get up, get dropped and get up.

im ready for it all. im so ready.

MY QUESTION TO THE AMATUERS OUT THERE:
WHEN U DECIDED TO FIGHT N STEPPED UP AT UR GYM N SAID, HEY TRAINER I WANNA FIGHT AMATUERS... HOW LONG DID IT TAKE UNTIL U GOT EVERYTHING LEGAL AND U FOUGHT UR FIRST FIGHT ? i dont wanna wait over 2-3 months, im ready now.

Sounds all good and all, and I'm not trying to put you down here...

But a lot of people get really motivated for boxing, go to the gym, take a couple of hits in sparring and don't like it. So my advice to you is to make sure you're ready before you even spar.... you don't wanna lose what you have at the moment.

It is great that you are so enthusiastic. Paperwork and getting a medical won't take too long after you get the proper forms and everything. Don't be soo quick to say that you are ready right now. If you have not sparred yet you might not quite be ready. Expect to wait 2-3 months at least. You should be looking forward to this time, because you will be able to work with a coach and spar and get even better. Just keep working hard and everything is gonna turn out good.

That's great man, although at my gym, guys train for even a year before competing, it all depends when you wanna "jump in to the fray" so to speak.

Here (Ontario) it'll cost you $100 for the medical evaluation (and that's annual), your family doctor MAY do it for free if he knows a lot about you and all, I'm gonna try to pull that when I see him soon, but I doubt it'll work, they're really not supposed to, as the test is *supposed* to be quite extensive, and is not covered b OHIP anymore.

Where are you gonna be goin'? Like I said, I've heard good things about Regency. If I'm not mistaken, one of our guys sparred one of theirs, and he looked pretty sharp.

Don't expect to get it to it too fast. I suppose I've always been fast, and have always had good reflexes, but it took me a while to "drill" various defensive things in my brain anyways, because the reality, you don't stop and think to slip right, you just do. It may look easy, but anyone here will tell you it's not.

Now I don't know you at all, but if I were in your situation, I'd wait maybe 6 months before competing (not to mention then your license will be for 2008 too), that also depends on how hard you train of course.

But ya, good luck with all that man, let me know where you're goin', when I move to Dundas we can get a little spar goin'

            Peace,
            Trick

thanks for the advice. you are also 100% right, 2-3 months is a good time range to get comfortable in the gym, and get some sparring experience first. i know boxing is a lot about experience and preperation and training, so i need to practice everythign before i go and do it. if it all goes according to plan, ill be having my first fight september. so i got about 4 and a half months.
