  • How would a boxer get in shape?

Does anyone know what training routine a guy like Ricky Hatton would do in order to get all that weight off? I'm currently about 14.5 stone (203 pounds) and would like to get down to 12 stone (168 pounds). What training would a boxer do to lose this weight and also what would they eat, typically?

So basically the whole she****!!! lol

Simply enough, expend more energy then you take in.

    The long answer is... long

Don't compare yourself to an elite athlete whose number one priority in life is training. You can't do what Hatton does. Not even close.
You're a "regular Joe" who wants to lose weight. Take it from there.

Lol, no I realise that. I'm not fat I just want to tone up a bit, as I stopped playing rugby a while ago due to injury and I've not started down a new boxing gym since I moved to Nottingham. I've been going to the gym but I can't seem to get below 13 stone 2 no matter how hard I train. I have been doing a two mile run followed by weights, followed by three hundred sit ups and then a 1000 metre swim. I was doing that four times a week.

I've been making a documentary for uni these last few weeks and now writing my dissertation so I've not had time to get down the gym recently but I'm starting back there on Monday. Just wondered if anyone had any tips to really tone up. I thought if I knew what Hatton does to lose his weight I could maybe do a trimmed down version of it!!

          Running, and plenty of it!!

and no eating at night, that way the food doesn't sit on your stomach. plenty of cardio and eat losts of fruit and white meat. Tuna or Chicken are probably the best. The Weight should gradually come off and stay off

Good Luck, Im in the same boat.

The "magic" in someone like Hattons weight loss is in 1. Diet, and 2. The amazing workload of training.
Now, 1. is something EVERYONE can do, and it's also the most important one. Without a proper diet, you will not lose weight. On the other hand, no training program will make you lose weight if you eat wrong/too much.
My point was that you can pretty much forget about 2., because you don't have the phsyical ability to do itm and you don't have the time either.
Seeing as 1. is much more important, that is where you want to put your focus.
Eat right, do physical training that you enjoy, and you'll lose weight. It really is that simple (yet hard).

The funny thing about running is that, as you train and improve, your body becomes more efficient at doing the same work, while burning less calories.
Imagine you're a car that goes 15 miles a gallon. After training for a while, you'll be a car that goes 20 or 25 miles a gallon. Now, for a car, that's good economy, but if you're a person who wants to lose weight, it's bad. Why? Because you want to spend as many calories as you possibly can in the time you have available for training.
Therefore high intensity training is much better for fat loss. You burn more calories per minute you train, and as an added bonus you get afterburn. Afterburn is a heightened metabolism, that goes on for hours AFTER you're finished training. A lot of boxing training is actually high intensity and anaerobic in nature, and therefore much better suited for actual fat loss, than just running 5 miles which is aerobic. Also, circuit training with weights, or tabata intervals are amazing for this purpose.
              If you have to run, I'd suggest intervals. 5x800m, 6x400m, 8x200m, 4x4x80m.
              Much more intense.

As posted above do a lot of cardio. Not only helps you loose wieght, but helps your heart and breathing out.

Do workouts like running, sprinting from time to time, biking, jump roping, and if you can swimming.

Along with those you have to have a balanced diet. eat healthy. Try as much as you can to stay away from foods with high carbs. If you get hungry, eat more meals, but smaller amounts a day.

Do some research online, and im sure you will find out tons more.

Agreed, while I guess my morning cardio is more continuous, I try to get interval sprints in there. I'm finding it's doing a lot more focusing on the number and intesity of those sprints than if I was just trying to run faster/farther/longer, overall.
