    Sure, Trick might actually train that much, but believe me, most other guys in here don't train half as much as they say they do. At least what you're saying is realistic, and definitely enough training for you to become a good fighter, if you have the talent, and work hard when you're in the gym.

    Also, notice how many of the guys who train so hard in their threads are always on a two month break from the gym or something, and don't really have any fights, although they've been training for a long time. Then it's much better to train a realistic amount, that doesn't make you give up after a month, and then you're talking about getting back in the gym for a few months, go back in for another month, out again for three, etc.

    Just do the amount that you can keep in your schedule, so you don't have to drop in and out of it all the time.

      I just realized something pretty important, that completly slipped my mind earlier. The 5 hours is pretty much every other day. The other 3 days is usually more like 3-4. That makes a pretty big difference I think. And Veldrak, your training is fine, I can just get away with this because in my field class time really isn't too important if you put in the work on your own time. If I was in english or history or something, I'd never be able to juggle boxing and school like this.

          That makes sense. I work out hard on my own, but i can never push myself quite as hard as my coaches do.

          As for my routine, I use a stationary bike 4 or 5 times a week, for anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes depending on how early i can wake up... Hearing trick call 7 early makes me pretty jealous now... I work with the coaches for about 90 minutes monday and thursday night, and i usually try to do a little something afterwards... usually just 15 minutes straight on the rope or a good ab workout. Tuesday, wednesday and friday I do 45 minute workouts during my lunchbreak... one day of legs, one of abs, and one mixing stuff up. I usually go to the gym one or two of those nights as well and do an hour or two of bagwork, endurance work or sparring. saturdays and/or sundays I do longer cardio sessions, i go to the gym and spar if anyone else shows up, if not i do circuit work or sometimes i do weight routines. I also do 500 situps and 200 pushups everyday except for occassionally when its too late and/or i'm too wiped out from other stuff.

          It varies a lot, but on average I think that adds up to around1.5-3 hours a day. I've been working with the coaches for about 3 months, and maybe 2 or three months before that i started working on conditioning and all that... no fights yet but thats what i'm working toward.

            Why dont you go to Jackie Kallens web site and ask her about me and my training methods. I'll bet that she will tell you that nobody trained harder or had a more strern coach when it came to physical conditioning. Ask her about Rockin' Robbie and she will fill you in................Rockin'
            I'm not questioning you but i'm curious about the website. Is that for the gym you trained at? post the url?

                I work 8-6 most days and have about a 45 minute commute each way... so my time is actually pretty limited. I get up early to do cardio, i get workouts in at a little gym at my office during lunch hours, and then i often go to the gym late at night. I've definitely had to cut down on time for other things... and my girlfriend complains now and then, but I'm serious about boxing so I make it a priority and I just try to use my time as efficiently as possible. If you really want to do something you figure out a way to make it work.

                  @trick,
                  how long u been training for? september is a few months off... how come u want to wait so long to get into ur amateur career?
                  I started training about 5 weeks b4 first fight and that was plenty.
                  My first fight i was matched up against a 64kg 32 yr old while i was only 17 and 60kg and stil managed to stop him in 3rd round.
                  at my gym new fellas normally train for about 2 months b4 their first fight, sometimes trainers say longer, others shorter.

                    Well September since I'm actually gonna be gone all summer, **** I don't know if I'm even gonna be able to find a gym where I'll be in Germany...

                    So It's gonna be a struggle just to stay in shape, let alone keep up on any boxing training. I leave in like three weeks, and I'm leaving my gym in a week to go back to my hometown for 2 weeks.

                    I'm also just takin' my time man, I'd like to do this all right. Also, if I wait till 22 Sep, I get a license for the rest of the year, and the next (2008) so it makes sense for me to just wait.

                    To answer how long I've been trainin', that's kinda vague. I guess to my friends I've been a boxer since I was like 4... But I've only been seriously, everyday, properly training since February... So there's a lot of things I can do well, but honestly, for everyone one of those, there's a bad habit ready to bite me in the ass.
