A lot of guys at my gym use the feint, feint, jab thing in the beginning of a sparring round or a fight. Me, I throw my first couple right into the guy's guard, heavy jabs or even an overhand cross, BAM! bamBAM! One, it lets him know what he's dealing with; Two, if it's too hard, he'll tell me immediately and BEFORE I've caved in his skull; and Three, a lot of otherwise aggressive and/or wild fighters cool their **** down fast because they don't want to get caught with one of those. Your mileage may vary.

depends fro person to person but usually in amateur or at beging of fight in pro or amateurs you dont know you oppenet ablities and it very hard to tell so this thing is like test him out and what if you hit a strong punch and then the guy notice that he could take you punch no problem then that is really bad because he will try to KO. another thing is to predict his movement. It depend if you know the skills and power of you oppenet including you stamina thing

but different people act differently and even at different circumstances
