Second, make sure that when you do the crossover, each hand is past the opposite arm's elbow. Your wrists should sort of flop against your elbows. Try it standing still and you'll understand this better.
Third, the timing is tricky. It's on the upbeat; if you did music in school, even learning recorder or whatever in 3rd grade, you remember learning to count out the beats: "one-and-two-and-three-and-four-and. . . " If your feet are landing on "One," "Two," "Three," "Four," your hands should do the cross on the "AND." Learning to cross-over teaches you the timing you'll need to counterpunch, and to break up a flurry. You gauge your opponent's rhythm and hit him on the upbeat.
