  • Tips for a newbie

Hey guy i havent been on in a while, since i activated this acount but im starting boxing on tuesday, and i was wondering what i should expect and what i should do get in shape, i have a decent cardio going, but i dont know how hard the training is gunna be, i weight at like 179, but that is too scarwny for i think, i wanna box at 185 at a decent muscle build, would it really matter going into different weight classes? What kind of muscles should i focus on in the gym ?>

You should box at the weight you feel strong at. If you find you're not strong enough at 179, than yes go up. Remember if you haven't been doing much in the way of weights, it's likely you're going to gain muscle anyway. For boxing you need good core and upper body strength, if you've been running and you don't slack it at training(keep on the balls of your feet) your legs should get strong enough without worrying about weights. Goodluck.

if you are starting training at 179 it isn`t likely you`ll be able to box at 185 unless you already have a very low fat percentage.

I dont know your situation but personally i walk around at 180lbs with a normal fat %....at a boxing weight i box at 155-160 being ripped at this weight.

If you try to box at a higher weight than you should be, you will be at a huge disadvantage from the outset.

If you want to box you should focus on boxing. Do you spend time worrying about your liver or spleen? Are they any less important than your muscles? Don't worry about your muscles, they will take care of themselves.

Just out of curiosity, why are there two identical threads about this?
