  • New to boxing...southpaw question

I'm a righty but the orthodox stance just feels weird, when me and my friends used to spar just joking around, I was always southpaw and now that I started actually training, I prefer southpaw. Is that gonna cause problems in the future?
    Thanks for any help.

    Analysing Cat Stevens...

The song ¨Father & Son¨... 1 of the verses in particular that is repeated.

    Father
Its not time to make a change,
    Just relax, take it easy.
Youre still young, thats your fault,
Theres so much you have to know.
    Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.
I'm young and thats my fault?

    **** you, cracka.

      Haha

Well man, most people feel a little uncomfortable leading with their left hand at first. Just train on it, and eventually it'll come naturally. Just something to get used to. I'd say not to go southpaw, but I'm not a trainer

      Peace,

Actually im gonna make a thread about it.... its a damn good point, right?

To answer the question. Since you are new you have not learnt either way... so moulding you into a southpaw fighter will be easy. It just means you will be southpaw rather than orthodox... no big deal... its only stance and has little effect on a fight... only the skills you learn have the effect.

          exactly

it when you abosored first even the tech is very important because if you train wrong then you will alway throw you punch wrong even if you try to do it right

I read somewhere that some trainers don't know how to train southpaw. Is that true?

ya, well that's what I was eluding to. Being southpaw can sometimes create management problems. In the pros, you may get ducked for it. And ya, some trainers aren't so good with it. So if I had to just choose a stance, I'd go with ortho. But that's just me. If you feel like you BOX better south, than do it. So people just see stuff better from one angle than the other.

And Exige, haha do it, it is a good point
