Is 31 To old to start

    Hi All,

I am thinking about doing some training.
I am not sure if I want to Box as an ameteur but I won't rule it out.

Is 31 to old I know I am past it, but what do you think.

don't expect to be an amateur or professional superstar, but you absolutely could train and take some amateur bouts.

yeah you could start if you have the drive. Will be tough on your body but it will be worth it if you value fitness. Too late to become a huge superstar but a few amateur and easy going pro fights wouldn't be out of the question in you put the work in.

You can fight until the amateur rules don't permit it.....

I'm 39 and I just started. I've been training hard for two months now and just starting to spar. If I just got in shape and was able to spar with guys in the gym regularly, that would be a homerun. I'm 6' and 173 so if I got down to 163 or something I bet I could eventually hold my own in some type of 40 and over situation. That's my fantasy anyway.

There's a Master's Division for amateur boxers 35 and older. It's sanctioned by USA Boxing, it's Olympic Rules, and they are now having Golden Gloves. There are some medical restrictions, look it up at:

This page says that there is no regional or national competition, but I believe that's dated information; I saw a news article about a Master's Division bout at the Golden Gloves in ******ia recently.

I'm 36, started at 35, and I would love to compete in GG someday. Maybe by the time I'm 40.

Hey. Great link. Thanks. I'm totally bummed though. I looked at the form and the medical form says that you have to verify you have no history of Lasik surgery. I've had Lasik surgery. What's up with that?

Also, it doesn't say anything about weight classes. Can someone give me a link to Amateur Boxing weight classes?

                  Thanks,

                  Mike
