I'm in the same boat but getting better, I read some other threads and they were right you really have to snap it. A few things that I had to take a look at was I rotating my hips, pivoting, and bending my front knee. Take it slow in the mirror and go from there.

          Jab

It is true that the jab can never be perfected; however, you can get it be an effective punch from early on if you work on your form and dont try to rush it. I was taught to throw it out as fast as you can turning your hand inward at the last moment-snapping your punch. Also, stay sitting down with your legs bent. When you throw the punch step into it and drag your back leg-or have your back leg follow. THis allows you to be ready for a straight right, left hook, etc without being over stretched out. Make sure your jab is going straight from you shin out and back to your chin. Dont drop it or you are setting yourself up for an over the top right. I know I am not a world champ or anything, but I find the jab works better when you worry about getting it out there fast and snapping it at the end. Let the power punches come after you have set them up with a quick jab.

It takes years to become a good boxer. As soon as you start to think you have perfected anything, somebody will get in the ring find a way of embarrassing you.
