Taking care of my hands????? what to do?

i have started training myself to fight, i have a guy lined up to train me seriously but im gonna wait about another month before hooking up with him as i need a lot of work on my cardio still......

i have been hitting the heavy bag and focus mitts almost everyday and am experiencing what i expect is a normal amount of soreness ( for a beginner) in my hands and wrists... my question is what if anything special should i be doing to combat this????

should i ice my hands and wrists after hitting the bag??? more than once a day??? should i use heat at all????

i wrap my hands and use gel gloves so i think im alright on that account...

also, should i let my knuckles get dried out and busted up or should i try to keep some moisture on my hands.... i figure its only to my benefit to let my knuckles callous over ASAP.. but i dont know for sure....

also if someone could recommend some literature as far as proper punching technique and whatnot it would be appreciated...

    thanks in advance!

good luck! i personally wouldn't pay $250 plus for any book. i mean, it would have to be some kind of secret training manuel like you see in kung fu movies.
