I'm still learning to think in the ring. I can only think so far ahead right now, I find.
For example, last week I was in the ring with a guy who loved to jump backwards. Every time I'd close, he'd leap back like a flea, just out of my range but still at the end of his range. After several times of this, I waited until he was close to the ropes and then closed fast. He leaped back, hit the ropes unexpectedly, and bounced forward, at which point I nailed him with an uppercut to the liver that, if I hadn't pulled it, would've sent him down. That took some thought, but stuff like that just comes spur of the moment. I'm not remotely good enough yet that I can make a set battle plan. I just concentrate on remaining calm and staying alive long enough to come up with something clever.
Everything i do is on instict, i dont even know how i hit people. Sometimes when someone moves out to the side i throw a straight right hand with perfect accuracy, and then when they think they're out of harms way again ill throw another acurate straight right on instinct. When i get my rhythm going i think smart without realizing it.
I dunno, but I don't like the term thinker, I think that throwers gotta think a bit too. You could say I am a technical fighter, I like to control the ring, using my stiff arm and then when the other fighter gets close i pop em, but I switch styles often, I like to be the aggressor too throwin jabs n combos pullin down gaurds n feedin em my hooks.
I am a thrower, gradually working towards becoming a thinker. I think more often right now, but still not where I want to be in terms of my in ring mentality.
