  • Question about when you do Push-ups

Here's a change from the usual weight lifting questions....

Alright push-ups there good for you....yea

But how, or better yet, how often do you do them...

Do you do many sets within a certain time frame (like 1 set, 10 second break, and so on) or do you span it out over the course of a day (1 set about every 15 minutes, and try to do about 300 in a day)

I used too, (and probably will do when I start training again) the second of the two..I usually tried to do about 200 - 300 in a days time...

    your opinion

I mix it up. Sometimes I do sets one after another but usually I spread them out over the course of the day and aim to do more sets in the course of the day.

I do 20 or 30 at a time, several times throughout the day. I was up to 70-75 at a time morning at night, and I started having shoulder problems. I probably do 100-150 a day, all together. I also do dips on the edges of my workbench. Yes, people at work who've caught me exercising think I'm nuts. The fat bastards.

My routine is about the same, and I also do dips, but in between the two desks in my classrooms. BUt people are used to the idea of my physical superiority and my anitcs.
I absolutely love to do about 50 pushups in the morning and a stretching.
I also do about a 20 before I start lifting.
Over the course of a day I like to do at least a 120, usually 150

I do a 1000 over about an hour. Thats one part of my workout.

Ill do 80 then read boxingscene for a couple of minutes, then do 50, then go drink some water, then 80 again etc... I try to stretch it over an hour.

I do chair pushups though. Two chairs and feet on something elivated like a bed. "deep" pushups as they say. Much harder then regualr pushups.

It took me a lot of time to get to that level though. I remeber when 30 chair pushups is all I could do in a day.

In the end your packs feel like they are going to burst.

And I started with the 1000 only recently.

shiiit!i dont think i could do that daily . i did it once about 6 weeks ago but over 2 hours with lost of break inbetween. like it went 50,50,50,50,25,25,25,25,25,25,25,25,20,20,20,20,20 ,20,20,20,20,20,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,1 0,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10. then 100 push ups 5 at a time. then the last hundred was 10 push ups again. our break from the push ups was 10 situps until we got to 1 hundred ,2 hundred ect which then we'd take a few min break and a drink...:| i couldn't move good for a few days afte rthat keep it up! i sure can't

So the question is: how often do you do them...

Do you do many sets within a certain time frame (like 1 set, 10 second break, and so on) or do you span it out over the course of a day (1 set about every 15 minutes, and try to do about 300 in a day)

                  My answer:
Variety, my man, variety. One day do a bunch of half pushups so you can do more and build up muscle endurance. The next day, do pushups explosively so you burst when you go up, etc etc. The key is using variety to not get bored and 'cheat' on your workouts.

Push-ups are good for judo. Stick to hitting for boxing.....
