Are you shifting your left foot in while you punch. Also do you throw your hips with it. I practice my left hook to the body everyday. I watch vids of Cotto and Hatton just to study it. When I start to spar that will me my trademark punch no doubt.
I recomend watching Tyson throw a hook. He brings his whole body into it. Its a beautiful punch.
Thats all I can say. Im sure the vets got much better advice.

I'm a southpaw (but I do everything right handed, except write. I write left handed).
But I know that I have more power in my right hand. I worked a lot on my left hand punches to where I feel I can throw a decent power shot, and a left hook.
But I know for a fact my right is still the better punch. Should I go back to conventional stance as opposed to southpaw?
I think I prefer Southpaw because of how I move my feet, and also I like to work my jab a lot, and my right jab is stiff, but left jab not so much.

In my last fight, we were both southpaws. I had dazed the guy with a left cross, and as he was backpedaling I switched up (crossed feet as I moved in) and double-jabbed with my LEFT, moving him back. When he raised his gloves -- guarding to the wrong side, waiting for the left cross again (he hadn't figured out that I had switched stances) I hit him with an overhand RIGHT, straight through the hole, that spun him into the turnbuckle. He spent the rest of the round keeping the hell away from me. I doubt that he ever figured out what happened.
I would stay with whatever stance your feet are happier in, and if you have equal power in each hand, work up a few tricks to bring that into play.
