  • What kind of trainer you got?

    Just curious...

Supportive and easy going? Critical and brash? Neutral and unbias?

I got a critical kinda bitchy one who puts you down if you don't look like Floyd Mayweather every time you spar. 58 year old black man from Queens. Has a habit of talking negatively about all his other fighters to me and I'm sure he talks about me to them. Dunno what to do about him, hes a cool guy to kick it with and we chat a whole bunch but is a little too negative when it comes to the training side. Been with him for 4 years and don't know how to just pick up and bounce to someone else...He can **** with your ego big time if you don't impress him and thats been bothering me a bit, but I guess that can help you get better if you use it right.

Then theres some days when he'll tell you to just control the tempo, be easy and box with your teammate then other days he expects you to beat the dog**** out of them. Never know what to expect. Doesn't seem to have any sympathy for what it takes to get in that ring and box. He knows his boxing and teaching technique but...

What kinda trainer do u guys deal with?

4 trainers?? U deal with 4 different people, is it in the same gym? If its the same gym, out here that doesnt happen. There is this unwritten code about a trainer and his fighters. A fighter is basically off limits to other trainers if hes already trained by somebody and theres alot of beef and bickering in the gym about supposed "traitors" etc.

yeh it can be annoying at times,if they disagree on somethin or teach us somethin completely different it can be annoying, but i suppose it could make me more versatile,it is inside aswell, our gym is pretty small too so that can get annoying

I have had 3 trainers, first one was quite unbiased also he liked to swing to a supportive side a bit.
The other two were the definition of neutral and unbiased, they would never *****, but just ask me if I saw what I was doing wrong, and If I did not, well I was upto find out that hell has a smile

When I boxed my trainer was easygoing and laid back, but he'll be serious when you get down to it. Coach Igo used a lot of philosophy and vocabulary in his time training me, he's been doing it for like 30+ years..

my trainer is like 55-60 and is tough but a really nice guy. gives great advice and everything

bad thing is that he doesnt tell you why you do something

first month of boxing, i was told not to pivot my feet during a right cross. i asked him why and he said because he said so

later i find out it was because he wants technique down before worrying about weight palcement

good intentions, but doesnt say why he does it

My trainer is the greatest ever. He knows exactly what I need to do when I need to do it. He is understanding, yet demanding, and very persistent. He is his own worst critic. That trainer is me.....

you guys are all lucky. I dont speak spanish and my old trainer mainly spoke spanish and broken english. It was hard hitting the pads with him cause I couldnt understand what he was saying most the time.
