  • Back Injury

Hey, about a month ago i injuried my back in what i thought i had pulled a muscle in the bottom of my back. I went to the doctors and was on pain killers for a couple of weeks and rested for a few days and then gradually came back into light training. I since had 4 fights this month all in which ive gone in the ring with the small pain stil in my lower back. During the fights it would be fine, i wouldn't feel a thing, but after the fights, the next day i wouldn't be able to get out of bed
I last fight was last moinday, im on the pain killers again and have rested totally 4 the week but i can still feel the niggling pain in my back, jus wondering if anyone has any advice coz i h8 not being able to train and this problem feels lyk it aint gna go away lol

    Any advice appreceated

Four fights in a month. Kick ass!

    Firstly see a doctor.

But I would say as much as a ***** as it is I would stop, for six weeks. I have had a couple of injuryies very similar. And they took about that long to recover. I went back earlier and it just made it worse.

Bite the bullit, admit you cant train, and let your body heal. I have always tried to enjoy being lazy when I have been injured

    Sorry m8

People have laid in bed for 6 months with a back injury. Agreed, see a doctor pronto, but don't let them operate or anything like that, just diagnose the problem and propose some conservative solutions. Mainly what I do with back problems is a lot of stretching. A tight back puts more pressure on the discs and aggravates the problem. Also, inflammation is usually what triggers the pain. Get rid of the inflammation and the problem resolves, so that means NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, like Aleve or aspirin). You could also have a pre-existing condition, maybe an accident when younger or congenital defect which boxing has aggravated. You need to figure out what triggered the problem. Personally I've found that hard punching puts a lot of strain on the back, because the power is transmitted from the legs through the back up to the arms, but I've never suffered a back injury from hitting things. You'd be more likely to hurt yourself bobbing and weaving. Don't do sit-ups, especially extreme back movements like Roman Chairs. There are better ways to work the abs nowadays. And avoid rowing exercises where there is a tendency to pull with the back, rather than just with the arms and upper body. You can work through this. Mainly stretch. Back braces are worthless....
