punchdrunk, box squats are better IMO then regular squats when done explosively for speed. you cant really go regular squats explosively
    ANY WAYS.
The only nuts I'm on are of course my own. If you knew the history of this forum you would see that when this same ? or type of ? comes up Punch Drunk, Big Dozer, Fraidy Cat and I have all answered the ? with pretty much the same answere. Incedently The same three are all experienced and accomplished in the area. All are boxers and all are mature adults with like I said experience under our belts. If it is being "on sombodies" nutz to agree with their views **** it So be it.

Did you READ what I quoted about box squats, the second time around? If not, do yourself a favor; go back and read it. Twice.

Well, maybe YOU can't do regular squats explosively, but I sure as hell can, and so can everybody else I've ever been in a gym with, once they reach a decent level of technique.

Anyway, I wouldn't use squats for explosive work (I use them to add strength) anyway, since there are superior methods for that purpose. Especially for boxers.

P.S. Maybe you should give Kingdosia a little more credit than that? At least he has the ability to READ something and understand it. that is a much better approach to things than getting stubborn, digging a trench and end up being buried in it yourself...

i would love to see a video of someone doing regular olympic squats explosively.

and there wouldnt be enough hip work in regular squats compared to box squats.

question....what lower body exercise would you pick for lower body explosiveness besides the O-lifts?

ill repeat what i said again on the o-lifts. if you're doing o-lifts, you're whole routine better be around those o-lifts. and if your doig this, it takes away from the sports training.

weights are to supplement whats going on in the ring. doing o-lifts or hard lifts to master like that take away from the real training

Do plyometrics and squat for overall leg strenght. Yoga also helps because u get more flexability and there for more snap in the hips.

And I'll say it again; what a load of crap!

Are you a trainer? How many people have you taught the O-lifts to? Let alone taught how to box? One to two workouts including O-lifts takes NOTHING away from "the real training" (here you show off your ignorance once again, it's ALL real training), when you're doing 6-12 workouts a week, and my fighters are doing just that.

O-lifts are a LOT easier to learn than you claim. For a talented athlete, it'll take anywhere from 5 minutes to 4 weeks. I'm speaking from personal experience here. It took me something like 3 workouts to be good enough at them to do sets with my own bodyweight. One fighter I have could do them the first day. Within a month, he was doing them with 150% of his bodyweight. This guy is definitely a best case scenario, most people need a little more time to get'em right. Like I said, up to 4 weeks, which is NOTHING in a whole boxing career.

The only thing you need to center around the O-lifts, are the specific workouts where you're doing the O-lifts, which just means you do them first in the workout. That takes nothing away from anything else, at all. I call bul**** on your claims, because I have the hands on experience with fighters to prove otherwise, PLUS the theoretical knowledge to back it up.

To answer your question on lower body explosiveness, yes O-lifts are FAR superior to box squats. Takes a little longer to learn, but not much. Other stuff I like to use are box jumps, depth jumps and assorted med ball exercises. I generally use weights for strength, and explosive work for explosive work. Make sense? I'd like to think so...

Edit:Oh, and for the explosive Olympic squat thing: It's all a matter of adjusting the weight. Exactly the same as with box squats. What I'd like to know is why YOU think box squats can be done explosively, bu t olympic squats can't ?? That makes absolutely NO sense !!!
