  • How long until you started sparring?

Ive only been boxing two weeks now. I dont think Ill be sparring for a while because of the shape that Im in. Im just wondering how long it usually takes for someone to start sparring.

yeah I dont think Ill be ready for a while. I cant even shadow box for **** because I think too much about defense and footwork. I always end up off balance, but hey its only my second week.

i know the feeling. The trick to shadowboxing(though not to real boxing) is to move, throw a combo,, move a little, throw a combo, and throw as fast as you can without getting criticized for form. It clicks. If you try to throw really slowly and with each step like i was doing you get frustrated because it seems like everyone is lightyears ahead of you. In reality, theyre doing what seems to be cheaing or cutting corners.

i sparred in the second week because i watch boxing and had been shadowboxing for a while before going to the gym so i knew what i was doing. Spar when you feel ready, its different for everyone

If you have a responsible trainer he won't allow you to spar until you can prove you are not easy to hit. That will require weeks or months of defensive ring drills, depending on your talent and motivation.

I believe it was my third or fourth week.... I sparred my coach seeing as how there was no one my size at the time. Did pretty well.
