I'll give you some insight. His style is the best to defeat a half assed "boxer" And its a mind game more than anything. He will get you out of your game plan, expose you and crush you. Thats the theory anyway. Do not abandon the jab and form of a boxer. He will get inside this is when you have to punch faster and tighter. "no wide shots". Move your head and counter with tight fast punches and get the hell out of there let him chase you all night or day. with the same tactics. Either you are going to catch him coming in or he'll run out of gas. Remeber this to its chess not checkers. Set him up watch what he is doing close enough and you can control the chaos. You can set him up to come in a certain way that you know you can drop the bomb on him. From what I read he seems somewhat repetitive so it should be easy. Some guys all you have to do is make a move once or twice and then feint that move and ther are wide open. You were right by having to out think him Do it.
No doubt...thanks for the words. You seem to know exactly the kind of guy I'm talking about.

I am by all means a slugger but for this guy it was just too tempting to avoid slugging with him because he is exactly the type of guy that can be grossly outboxed or outsmarted. I said to myself that now was the time to be the skilled one...I think the one thing I did was I moved backwards instead of stepping to the side when he came in. And I could have headed him off with the jab or double jab whenever he tried to make a move. I came in to the spar thinking that all I got to do is keep touching him with the jab and then surprise him with something hard.

First round I controlled, second round I was more defensive trying to feel him out and let him punch himself out. He was straight wiling out. But all in all my tactic seemed to start paying off towards the end of the 3rd round and thats when the mother****er came up to me and said "thanks for the work" lol. I was like, wuh..

On that note, anyone have a trainer that can find a way to put you down no matter WHAT you ****in do? Been with him for 4 years and at the end of every spar or match its always negative critique, sometimes overdoing it. **** Im 3-0 in comps and have never been dominated in a spar yet I get nothing but an earful every time. Sure knows how to **** with your ego.

He jumps in and throws a 10 wild punch combination then jumps out...jumps back and and does the same thing over and over. Real hyper and free swinging...

So naturally, I'm thinking that I gotta out think this ****er...Jab him, let him punch himself out, counter, keep my hands high etc. He would come in and throw a 10 punch combo, and maybe catch me with one of them (I can't block all them ****s). I would jab, try and move and control the pace...and hed jump in and do the same thing. I kept moving, kept the him looking at my right hand, went to his body...Landed some jabs, caught him with some rights. Tried to stay controlled and cool BUT...

All in all, the kid would have won the fight if this was a real amateur bout. He got off more shots cuz he threw so god damn many.

I mean, when u watch Oscar or Tito pick apart someone like Mayorga, they make it look alot easier than it really is. I also am still not confident in my stamina and was worried about winding up gassed out so I didn't throw as much as I would have liked to. Whenever I tried to get off some shots here he comes with another nutty wild combination so I have to protect myself.

Then here comes my trainer criticizing me, but fa real what was I to do?

How do yall deal with these kind of fighters? In the 4 years I have been boxing, this kid was THE most wild and hyper I have ever faced. I'm usually the more agressive fighter...but now Im ****in sulking over a spar where I feel that I feel I could have done much better. But at the time I feel like I was doing the right thing. God damn the ego. How would you guys deal with a big strong dude who fights like Ricardo Mayorga x 10????
Stick that jab, dig his body with the right. Just let the right go and while its in its path look for something coming back. The rest will just happen but take his body, his breathe and his heart. Those guys are actually most times more head strong then body strong. Its about endurance with those guys, they generally will not have it. Take that body and take it often. When on the outside with him get low and sneak a jab to his body, interupt his breathing. Soon it will all add up to him no longer being fast, then its your game......................Rockin'

i know exactly what you mean dude. at my gym, there's this autistic kid who fights exactly like that. no defense, just throws a ****load of punches at you, and he has a lot of power. (his heavy bag routine is putting on these old ass marciano-looking gloves and pummeling the bag).

maybe your opponent is smarter, but try using a lot of lateral movement. i found that when he would charge at me swinging, i could stand my ground, throw a good 1-2 (i like a nice hook to the body to end), bob down to the outside and just step out of range. all the spinning around can keep a guy like that off balance and make him easier to counter. problem here is, while he wont have the chance to throw as many punches, he'll have a lot more gas in the tank, and he'll be on you from bell to bell. but i found it a good way to deal with him
