  • National ABA Finals in the UK...

A great event, it just happened and ended about an hour ago. I have just got home because it was in West London at the York Hall, and I live pretty far away from there. Btw the York Hall is a pretty famous boxing venue, a lot of pro's have fought there and was an excellent venue for the event. The atmosphere was electric all night.

Here's the good news for the UK members, the highlights are gonna be on BBC2 either tommorow (Saturday) or Sunday. Look out for them, it was a great event. I would say I was pleased overall, as I got in for free, with affiliations to my club etc however the boxing was occasionally sloppy. But there were bouts that were of the highest quality.

I was sitting literally 10-20m away from the ring up on a little balcony that basically hung straight over the action. So I was watching with a prime seat. Remember that ringside seats are lower than the action with ropes and people in the way etc. On the balcony you could see everything. Truly a great experience.

Saw a few people that, especially the UK members may know... especially if you follow boxing pretty religiously. Saw Amir Khan's dad:

And Amir Khans trainer, Mick Jelley.

Saw Steve Bunce and the BBC presenter, the tall black guy. (you'lll see him on the tele if you watch the highlights tommorow).

Repton coach Tony Burns, who produced Audley Harrison and his Olympic Gold medal. (ringside here)

Frankie Gavin, the highest rated British amateur boxer in the European rankings and one of the Commonwealth Gold medalists.

Along with pretty much the whole England boxing team and England boxing coach.

Very good night overall. To anyone that gets the chance to watch such high calibre boxing, take the opportunity, it's great.

P.s my club was involved in a fight right at the end of the night... it set the tone on a negative just before we left. But oh well, things move on.

          DeGale?

He was knocked out in the first round this year if its the same dude i'm talking about. James DeGale, is that who you mean? He is still at Middleweight I believe... but no doubt he will move up, with his nickname and all; "Chunky".
