      "Easily." That's a good one.

To get inside takes one of two things - You have to be really quick on your toes and slip inside under a punch or a combo, or you have to wade through something. Fraidy and I wade through it. I'm learning to be a slip-inside fighter like Sergio Mora...just not pillowfisted.

I was a flat footer jabber. Very strong jab, swift and hard. In fact, my jab was harder than my cross, and I'm a southpaw so it comes from a tricky angle. I also stepped in with it for maximum power. My hook was pretty much an arm punch but I threw with a lot of strength. I'm a heavy handed guy so just swatting you is going to be enough to get your attention in most cases. Didn't care much for footwork or head movement. I more or less used my forearms (back when they were much bigger and I was a good 215 at 5'9") to block punches. I guess a short stocky George Foreman is a good description of the style I used back when I trained.

Yup. Grit my teeth, keep my hands up and my eyes open, and get in there fast and stay there. I realized quickly that if I could learn to get in fast, I'd have a safe place in the eye of the hurricane; I then figured out that if I could learn to throw heavy while in that close -- I learned to twist with my core and use the floor for leverage -- I had a place where their punches don't hurt and mine do. Almost everyone in my weight class is taller than me. (I'm 5'9" and a Light Heavyweight.)

Wow, you sound like me, only heavier. The heavy flat-footed jab, stepping in with the cross, using the forearms to block. . . right out of my playbook. And here I thought I was being original.

Nowadays I'm a "shrimpy" 188 lbs so I am probably around your size, but I haven't trained in forever so I'm so rusty I doubt I could be competitive with anyone on this site. I miss training though. Never got to have an amateur fight either. Thinking of going back but I don't wanna get busted up. I can get girls without a problem as is and I don't wanna mess that up and I'm also a sub teacher and I wonder if I'd lose my job if I came in with a fat lip and a black eye. I don't think grade school kids would like to see that.

Anyway, maybe it's all excuses and maybe I should just get back into it. I sure had a lot of fun and really felt like a ****ing badass. I felt I could hold my own in most situations back then.

I work the jab and then feint my way inside and brawl it out. After my first sparring session I learned the hard way that I can take some punishment, and I have more power than my size suggests, so I use it to my advantage.
same here i love to let my opponent throw nad slip a punch and hit them with a nice cp.
