  • Will I get better?

I have just started down at the local Boxing gym, I have never really been an active person and working in I.T doesn't help, But I have found I love this training/
I joined to loose weight and get fit, and in the 3 weeks I have done it I have already seen an improvement, both in weight and feeling better.

However I am about as coordinated as a dead slug.
    Will I improve?

I suck at speedball, double end bag and skipping.

I was doing speedball and there is this woman next to me working that thing hard and fast without any problem and here I am lucky to get 3 punches at it.

Double end bag I am not to bad on but not great, and as for skipping HAHAHAHAHAHA

I have never been light on my feet and it shows.

So my question is will I get better or is it a case of you ether got it or you don't.

Skills "and that means any" are built by repetition. The speed bag and Double end bag are both an aparatus which requires skill to master. The effect of mastering those skills is development of another. Hand coordination, Handspeed and Defensive skills. Take your time and do not discouraged. Some are naturals with a jump rope. Some take months and years to get it. It's not how fast you get it down it's how well you get it down and how correctly you do it. Boxing is complex, though to some it may not look that way. You can train from now to the end of your life and never master it. So take it for what it is and soak up all of the knowledge you can. Ask your trainer for any exersizes he can sujest for footwork. Those along with the jumprope will vastly improve with work. The skills you mention are by no means a condition of either you got it or don't. Train hard and SMART

a little food for thought on the speedbag. In your mind change the name from speedbag to controll bag. Thinking controll over speed. The speed will come naturaly as you get your timing down.

        Thanks guys,

I thought it was just practice but I wanted to be sure. I do allot of competitive Tenpin bowling and I am very good at that, that takes quite a bit of timing rhythm and control to master. That's one of the reasons I picked Boxing training is the fundamentals of both sports are similar, Balance, being loose but in control, core power.
At the moment I am only going once a week, I will do this until Christmas then I am coming over to the U.S for a holiday for a month so I won't be back to the gym until Feb 2007. Then I plan to go twice a week and work harder.

            I wouldn't say it's pointless

I have changed my diet and going once a week I have already seen a change in my weight and my stomach is getting flatter, I feel a little stronger.
More to the point my confidence is better; I feel I am accomplishing something I never thought I could do.
I am by no means ready to get into the ring, but that’s not my reason for doing it. I really have no intention in Boxing at all, maybe sparing later but way later. This for me is more of a mental challenge as well as a physical.
I feel if I am getting somewhere even if its in small steps its worth the effort.

As the reason I am doing it once a week is purely financial, I am going overseas for a month in Jan and I am saving my ass off so I can have lots of spending money.

Of course you'll get better. Don't be a ***** and work harder. ****in' A, if you were a fat kid you sure as hell aint a natural at the sport which means you gotta work even harder then everyone else.

Once a week is a start. You are getting familiar with the training and movements. and taking your time. Just make sure you take at least two more days out of the week and do some endurance training, Aerobics and Anaerobics. Focus on the Anaerobics for boxing, Aerobics for suplemented fat loss and muscle development. Do plenty of body weight exersizes and it wouldn't hurt to shadow box your ass of. If you want to compete, however You are going to need a min of 8 hours in a week set aside for skills training and sparring. That is not including strength and conditioning.
