  • Are you an Instinctive or Thoughful Fighter?

    ive heard different opinions about this. some people say dont think too much aout what youre doing in the ring, let it be natural, and instinctive. however, everything i do in the ring is planned out. not in a robotic, "im going to throw a left and a then a right" kinda way, but as in moving a certain way, making subtle feints with my hands, head, and feet, etc.

    im definitely a student of the nuances of the game, and i fight with a calm mind and effective aggression.

    are you like this, or more of a go with the flow type of fighter? which do you think is better?

    I think only about a few things, everything else is natural.

    I think about my gameplan the most. Like I thought to myself one time;

    "he keeps coming in with a right to the body and then attacking after that"

    So next time he did that he ate a massive right uppercut that sent him back a few paces. Everything else is natural. Foot movement, slips in particular and I make the shots up as I go along.

      I'm thoughtful to a point.

      I'll let people push me to a certain point. If they try to push me past that point and hurt me, then I become instinctive and try to hurt them back. Lately I've had a hard time turning on that instinct- mostly because it's my best friend at the gym that's trying to bring it out of me. Anybody else I think I'd be fine going after, but I consider this guy too much of a friend; but it's really starting to anger me that he's trying to push me to that point when i've repeatedly made comments that i'm not looking to go there.

      Otherwise, i'm mostly a strategy guy, with feints, slips, parries, counter shots, combos, etc.

          yeah i'm more like dempsey or pacquiao when i jump on someone... i just don't stop throwing... at my old gym, during one of my first spars with this smaller guy who was deadset on getting me to "respect (his) power", i threw like a 20 or 30 second continuous combo & didn't get tired.
          Being kind of a snappy puncher instead of a clubber, I don't have a ton of pop when I wear big safety gloves, but occasionally i can get the job done.
