He's a great fighter, and he'd probably beat Maskaev if he didn't get caught, but would he ever be able to unify the belts? I doubt it, he'd have a ton of trouble with Briggs if he was still champ by that time, and I'd give him no chance vs. Wlad. So basically if he wised up to how small he is compared to the other champs, we'd probably get to see him fight chumps so he could stay champ.

A no contest isn't a loss as far as i'm aware. The consensus regarding the Peter fight seems to be that Toney was robbed. The Rahman fight was a choice between workrate and accuracy. I don't like him as a person, but if he gets into shape [Toney] he can still beat most of these guys.

Maskeav and Briggs did very little to earn shots at the title. Maskaev's losses to ''T-Rex and Whittaker make Toney's performances against Rahman and Peter look like masterful performances.

I hope it goes down. Oleg Maskaev being ranked the number 2 heavyweight in rankings makes me sick to my stomach. I hope Maskaev gets his ass beat uglytroll bastard.

Wlad would wear down Maskaev and eventually KO him. Not a TKO but a KO I'm pretty sure.

I think he'd have a much better chance than Maskaev though. You forget that Maskaev would not be able to knock out toney. no way. i don't care how good his right hand is. wlad is up in the air. i'd be pretty skeptical about toney having a chance there too, but has a much better chance than maskaev. **** maskaev and wlad. why isn't briggs/wlad the fight that isnt being talked about? i think wlad just wants the easier fight. if toney was to become champ, i don't see why he'd be fighting chumps. this is james toney we're talking about. he didn't have to fight a top fighter in peter, but he did anyway. twice. besides that, he's 39. so to say he'd be fighting chumps at this stage of his career is pretty unlikely. imo though, toney would take briggs no problem. james toney is a draw for the heavyweight division. as you saw by the ppv numbers of the rahman fight, maskaev is ****. a lot of people would be pretty cautious about buying that garbage. toney/peter camps won't allow this to happen anyway. wlad people are wasting their time talking about it.

I agree with James MC on this one, as far as Toney-Klitschko is a more interesting fight than Maskaev-Klitschko. The Toney fight would be strategically interesting, whereas Maskaev would succumb to the same formula. But we don't need to put everything on hold until the perfect fight comes along. If there were one champ all the good fights would eventually have to happen.

i understand what you're saying, but the heavyweight division needs talent to be able to come up with great fights. we need something like the superfighter tournament here in the US. i think unifying the belts would help boxing, but as far as the division, it's pretty one-sided right now. and with DLH/mayweather coming up, boxing has all the help it needs there. if they want to unify, don't choose maskaev. toney and peter are more of a draw, so it would clearly help the sport more to choose wisely imo. funny though how wlad wants the smaller man to unify.

It doesn't matter how talented Wladimir Klitschko is, he's not going to the saviour of heavyweight boxing. Not in a mainstream sense anyway. Only chance of a saviour is a young ferocious prodigy like a Young Tyson, or a blood and guts fighter like a Holyfield. Add to this some personality and there may be a chance.
