    Open scoring OK'd for Taylor-Ouma

    By Karl Freitag

The December 9 WBC middleweight title fight between world champion Jermain Taylor and Kassim Ouma in Little Rock, Arkansas, has been approved for open scoring. The Arkansas Commission has given the OK for the scores of the bout to be announced at the end of the fourth and eighth rounds. Jermain Taylor is said to be thrilled about it.

No open scoring for Pacquiao-Morales clash!

    By Karl Freitag
The WBC unveiled their innovative new open scoring rule at events in Germany on November 10 and in Japan on November 13, where scores were announced at the end of the fourth and eighth rounds during WBC world and regional title fights. During Saturday's WBC International title showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales in Las Vegas, however, the scores will not be announced until after the bout. "I believe that the Nevada Commission stated that they would not be allowed to do it without a commission ruling, but they expressed their interest in knowing the results in the places where this rule has been instituted, so that they could look into the possibility of adopting it," WBC President Jose Sulaiman told *********.com today. "We are very happy with the unbelievable acceptance of the new rule in Germany and Japan by the public, boxers, the media and the promoters."

Bad idea. Open scoring will effect the fight too much. Say for instance it's a relatively close fight in most of the rounds but the judges are favoring Taylor. At the 8th round they announce the scores to say he's up 6-2, 6-2, 7-1 so he decides to completely coast the rest of the fight knowing he can't lose unless he gets knocked down or has a 10-8 round scored againts him. The plus side is it might fuel a fighter to give it his all when they're behind.. but most cornermen aren't delusional and tell fighters the truth in how they're doing in a fight so that isn't an issue.

Also... waiting until the end of the fight is that much more suspenseful.

they would put it up on a scoreboard, and keep it out of the ring.

ANd they should ban things like cell phones from cornermen... if its not already.

i like the idea personally, but it does take away from the fight a bit, and makes scoring the fight urself a bit more pointless

Taylor will probably stop Ouma....so it probably won't matter.

I think its bull****. Fighters will find out somehow and end up coasting. What if a fighter knows he has no way to win and resorts to illegal blows?

now we can tell if it is really going to be a positive or a negative in a fight. the only way to find out is try it. you can say that it's a bad idea this and that, but every fight and fighter is different and you would have to go through a large number of bouts to really determine if it is good for boxing or not.

i know both sides have valid point, the only way to really tell if it is going to work is by using it. if it's good and good things come from it then keep it, if it makes fighters not fight and doesn't help with poor judging then ****can it, simple as that.

i'm curious to see how it goes. whether or not it's be tried before, with all that's going on and the scrutiny it's under, open scoring might have a better chance at being on the up and up.

well i'll say this will def. benefit Ouma as much, if not more than Taylor seeing as though i'd assume Taylor would be looking to end the fight early and almost guarentee Ouma's looking for a decision victory

I cant really say i like this it kind of takes away from the suspense. But it also gets rid of the situations when u have boxers saying "i thought i was really far ahead how did i lose"
