I have no problem with him fighting DLH for (like you said) a right of passage and money but it won't make him the greatest fighter of all time or anywhere close. I also think Margarito is a good fight, but here is my issue. If Mayweather wins and Margarito has an unspectacular rest of his career, everybody will be saying what we're saying about his competition now...sub-par. On the other hand no arguments here about fighting Hatton and Cotto as they seem like the best 2 opponents out there. I really don't think either of them have any intention of fighting Mayweather anytime soon though (or at least their management has other ideas). Frankly if we're talking legacy there is only one fight that will legitimize Floyd in my opinion, Winky Wright. He is within the range of weight that Mayweather and he can make comfortably and Wright is the bigger, stronger fighter and perhaps only slightly less skilled. I would offer the Pac-Man but the weight differential is impossible to resolve.
Thanks, Pacquiao is out of the question. Wright would give him all kinds of legitimacy, but would shut him out. If he beats Margarito, I'll give him all kinds of credit for dominating the welterweight division in the same fashion he tore through 130. It won't mean much as far as a defining opponent, but it won't hurt.

My man K-Dogg is the best, even though I disagree with him most of the time.

Yeah I definitely see your point and even agree. But back to our original point, I just read Fischer's mailbag and there was one thing that he said that really pissed me off. He talked about Kostya beating Ben Tackie in a boring fight and how Gatti-Ward I was the same night and everybody talked about Gatti-Ward after although it was less important to the sport. That really bothered me. So what if casual fans like to watch exciting fights between average fighters...they probably like it because the lack of skill makes for lots of landed punches. But if you're a journalist of a sport isn't it your job to cover the more important fight to boxing rather than what is exciting and what is a spectacle. I mean I expect this type of reaction from your average sports fan but not a BOXING WRITER. He of course paralleled this story to why it was ok to criticize Mayweather for being boring. Yes Mayweather is boring but that is also what makes him the most skilled fighter in the game. The objective is to hit and not be hit...not to produce the most exciting result by taking ridiculous amounts of punishment...also pretty easy to criticize somebody for avoiding being punched in the face and stomach sitting ringside.

Criticizing Mayweather for his game is to overlook the same from Pep and Whitaker. I have other things I have against Mayweather than him being boring.
