    No Place For This

Thomas Hauser just wrote a big story for a BOXING website... about George Bush..... about politics, etc....Hauser, I thought he knew better...this article SHOULDNT be on that site!!! Under his thinking that means a boxing writer, if he feels like it, can flood cyberspace with articles on religion, politics and race or any other subject along those lines anytime he feels like it? NO. I think it is almost comical when people get so into politics (or race or religion) because these types of subjects turn them almost like followers of a cult or something. All that matters on these subjects is their opinion and they will cross any lines to get it out there.

A Writer is a Writer... being a BOXING writer doesn't mean YOU know nothing else or shouldn't write about anything else.. Having an opinion about POLITICS is NO different than having an opinion on BOXING.. SOUNDS to me like sour G****S...

I'm with Iceman on this one. As a teacher I deal with this frequently in discussions with those colleagues of mine who feel they have a right to lecture their students on whatever topic they wish.

Well - I suppose if the boxing site paid him to do a political article, then it's ok. If not, then I agree - what's he trying to prove?

Either way though (and without having read the thing), hopefully all of us have the brains/objectivity to judge the article for what it is - political commentary from someone who doesn't know what he's talking about...

I'm more with Welter; but I can see Iceman and kayjay's point. I feel as communicators, writers have a responsibility to "comminicate". As a boxing writer, of course Hauser is going to write about boxing, that's why we log on to boxing websites, to read about boxing. That is a given.

However, the world is comprised of far more important matters than a mere sport; and if a communicator decides to speak on a topic as important as a national leader, something that concerns boxing fans and non-boxing fans alike, then I commend him/her for using their medium to speak out on a topic that does indeed effect each and every one of us.

If the readers who log on to a boxing website don't want to read about politics, there are plenty of boxing articles to choose from to entertain them. It's akin to something on TV you don't want to watch. You can turn the TV off or change the channel as easy as the press of a button.

But, as someone who is well-rounded in things more important than boxing, I cannot blame Hauser and do applaud him for using his medium for it's best affect.

The difference being.. In a classroom the kids dont really have a choice and most trust their teachers.. so Personal opinion should be kept to oneself.. Published articles are there to read OR not to read .. the readers have a choice..

So IN OTHER WORDS you have no problem with logging onto a ********* or maxboxing or one of the better sites and reading political articles whenever they feel like putting one up..... even though MANY that choose towrite about politics are not professional political advisors, they are just average americans like you and I...... so Sports Illustrated canhave articles about religion only? Its OK with you to turn on Sports Center and watch a thirty minute debate on politics?? That's RIDICULOUS. Thereis a place for everything and a BOXING website should NOT be prinitng articles about president bush and politics. That's WAY out of line.

Obviously if such websites or magazines strayed from their "audience" on too many occasions, they'd lose that audience. Flavoring the website with occasional departures from the norm, is not suicidal, though.

And, personally, I find it refreshing when someone who is not an expert in politics gives an honest opinion about something political. You don't have to be an expert in fecal matter to know if it stinks or not.

No of course NOT.. But considering what yesterday was in the USA.. its not inappropriate.... Same as I would expect article in late december to have a Christmas flavour.. If he keeps writing politics and NOT boxing.. then you are right.. BUT a once in awhile off topic article concerning present events is NOT so bad..
