Floyd took everything he taught him a step further.
He evolved into Wartortle after starting off as a Squirtle.

Like Floyd Sr. said, he no longer throws combinations or boxes, just pot shots opponents and relies on his reflexes. Reminds me of how Roy Jones changed his style and once he went back to boxing, he was lost.

Against Gatti/Bruseles/Corley we saw combinations, as the judah fight wore on, we saw comibnations, against Baldomir, him standing there giving him a target would have gotten him hurt or KOed which would have been ******. Mayweather is more defensive minded than roy, he isnt just relying on reflexes, roy and floyd arent the same type of fighter.

I think they are exactly the same kind of fighter. Roy fought when he needed to fight and boxed (Ruiz) when he needed to box. Once Roy's reflexes left him, he was beatable. Up until the first Tarver bout, Roy had barely lost a round in any bout and dominated almost every opponent he faced. Once Mayweather loses his quickness, he too will be beatable.

Mayweather isnt unbeatable at this point but i just DO NOT agree that him and jones are the same, simple fact is was mayweather standing and throwing combination after combination in the Corralles fight? How about the JLC1/2 fights? Even a fight as early as Edgar Ayala he pot shotted and scored a brutal looking KO based on moving constantly and picking his shots. I have seen both Roys and Floyds entire career, Mayweather sees what your going to do and figures you out from round 2/3 on. Roy is nowhere near as defensive, Mayweather is more like pernell whitaker, you never saw whitaker humiliated or crushed late in his career even when he was on ****ing coke because he was defensive minded, floyd is defensive minded..ROY WASNT, Roy moved and anticipated the punches with one ****ing hand on his ass the other loaded up for a counter, floyd isnt really like that as he uses that shoulder roll/philly shell/etc.

I mean, i know you feel different, but i have seen both styles closely and floyd doesnt just rely on reflexes, if he did, JLC would have knocked his ass out and so would Zab, Zab is faster, bigger and stronger than floyd and even knocked him down in that fight, but floyds defense and combinations to the body and head wore his ass out. If floyd relied on the Roy Jones school of defense in that fight, he would have lost or got KOed, zab was on his ass. Nobody roy fought was ever faster than him, Zab was and he lost.

Roy Jones is known as a defense first fighter. He never even had a mark on his face until the Tarver fight, and rarely ever got hit clean. I would say that his defense was pretty tight. Jones would always intentionally back himself up into the ropes, and make an opponent try to beat on him, making them miss 99.9% of their punches in the process. Floyd has used that same tactic in several of his own fights.

Both of you raise good points about Floyd as compared to RJJ. I tend to think that they are at least a little bit different. While RJJ relied mostly on reflexes for his defense, Floyd is more a combination fo what RJJ did and what Toney does (with the shoulder roll). When his speed begins to decline I foresee Floyd having problems maintaining that really tight defense. Nonetheless I think that his ring savvy, intelligence, and hand speed will carry him slightly past where RJJ fell off. On the other hand I don't think Floyd has that Winky Wright defense which can last a whole career because it is really based on hand positioning rather than reflexes.
