The philippines is not known for hometown decision but since you use the word would then I agree.

Could his SD loss to Jhonny Gonzalez last May in Carson, CA, have anything to do with Montiel's fickle mind (yes, no, yes, fire the manager, purse bid), as described by Golden Boy Promotions' Gomez?
It's not easy to shake off a loss of any kind.Last edited by grayfist; 11-07-2006, 03:19 AM.Comment

Hi buddy! How ya doin?
Just tossing in what I think for whatever it's worth, pal.
Yes, it is not clear who was vacilating, really. But, the article says in part that Gomez was talking to the "Montiels", even as he also negotiated with Gary.
I am guessing that the Montiel crew just wasn't simply able to take a unified position because of some concerns which may not involve money all that much because the option they took (purse bid) is a method employed mostly when there are no promotional takers. Montiel is not a mega-star and Gorres may have a following in the Philippines, but in the US, I do not see promoters stumbling all over each other to get the duo to sign or win a bidding.
In a purse bid, they can very well get much lesser purses than what GBP is offering. Or, Aldeguer can collude with GBP in a co-promotional deal that would bring the fight to the Philippines, submit a bid that's sufficiently high to discourage competiton and ensure that the fight can be made in Gorres' home turf.Last edited by grayfist; 11-07-2006, 03:21 AM.Comment

Good to know that buddy! I'm close to being sure that you can now hardly wait for Pac-Morales3!
Anyway, I'll take the flack for tossing in what I tossed buddy. Twas just a thought.
I edited my previous post to say that I am not really enclined to believe that the primary consideration for the Montiel camp's vacilation is financial. Gomez said it well when he said that Aldeguer may see to it that the fight be staged in Goress home turf. What he perhaps did not say is that Golden Boy Promotions can conspire with Aldeguer to cough up the money, enter a high bid and put a lock on the fight being made in the Philippines.
I have always seen purse bids as a method mostly used to push through an un-sellable match-- contests that no promoter, save a very few would touch. Altough it may also be employed to resolve issues in big ticket events, it is seldom employed.
That is why I am seeing the Montiel position as one that has only marginal concerns with matters financial.
The decision (or lack of a really firm one in the early stages) may also have something to do with Montiel's not liking the idea of fighting a GBP-contract fighter in a GBP -promoted card.
Great to see ya pal!Last edited by grayfist; 11-07-2006, 03:39 AM.Comment
