Replying to the posts about Joan Guzman:

Joan has had only three fights at SuperFeather. In 2003 he tentatively tested the SFeather waters while holding the WBO SuperBantam belt; he tipped the scale at 129 and faced someone named Alfaro Gonzalez in Panama. He knocked Gonzalez out in the first round. His only two other SuperFeather fights were this year: vs. Jauregui and Barrios. All three are not widely considered among the division's elite. To elevate Guzman to the top of the SuperFeather totem pole is, I think, premature.

Similarly, it is flawed to factor Pacquiao's victory over Barrera into the reckoning of his stature as a SuperFeather. The Barrera fight was not at 130; it was at Featherweight. Barrera and Pacquiao still have to meet at the 130 limit, and here's hoping that that will happen in early 2007.

Pacquiao has had only four fights as a SuperFeather; he is 3-1, having won over Velasquez, Larios and lost once, then, won once against Morales. All of Pacquiao's 130-lbs. fights were not for any type of "World" crown. They were for what are called "International" belts. (Anyone wishing to know more about the distinction has to address his question somewhere else).

There are Jr. Lightweight belts out there: Barrera holds one, Guzman holds another; also there's the big puncher Edwin Valero who holds the WBA version. And then there's a guy named Malcolm Klassen who took the IBF title from Garry St. Claire a few days ago.

Of the four champions mentioned Valero has the most fights at the SFeather division with 19 of his 20 engagements having been made in that weight class. Barrera has had five (Morales--the third meeting, Fanah, Peden and Juarez--twice), while Klassen only can speak of the St. Claire fight as his sole Jr. Lightweight encounter.

If one were to do the figuring of who's the best Jr. Light on the basis of the number of fights in the division, Valero is the runaway winner. But then, there's the question of the quality of his opposition plus the fact that he has not made any defense as yet. It has been said that defenses are what truly make champions, not merely winning titles. Guzman too still has to defend his title he won from Barrios, and Klassen along with him. Barrera won his WBC belt in a meeting with Morales (THE Morales) and has had four defenses, but, do Fanah and Peden really count? However one calls those two, Barrera is undefeated at Jr. Light. But so is Valero and Guzman. Even Klassen who, in spite of his having three losses, has not lost as a SuperFeather. He has had only 130-lbs fight after all and he won that.

To me, the division's best is yet to be proclaimed and the best matches are yet to come, in good part because there is no one who can be claimed the best...as yet... and the fighters on top of the heap, as seems clear, have too much pride not to get together to settle questions.

An interesting footnote: The biggest SuperFEather fights of this year are those that involve/d two fighters who didn't/don't wear WORLD belts: Pacquiao and Morales. Their meetings in 2006 (the first in January and the second in just a week's time) serve as bookends to interesting developments in the division.

Yes. If EM beats Pac in the trilogy, EM is the better fighter.

But if Pac beats EM, would you admit that Pac is better?

2-3 sounds like he will have the upper hand if he wins

To change the subject. Which rematch do u want to see, Pac vs MAB or Pac vs JMM?

Pac vs MAB, Pac dominated MAB.

Pac vs JMM is the rematch i want to see. Its unfinished business.

Pac Vs MAB- Barrera needs redemption, he can beat pac and he needs to.

Pac Vs JMM i dont like Marquez, and despite the kd's Marquez dominated PAcman for the rest of the fight, he is the first one who figured out how to fight pacman.

id go with Pac vs MAB

we're talking Mexican fight fans here. excuses are a way of life for them. Pacquiao will get even less credit for winning from them.

I hoping that this is not the case for all of them...

Some mexican fans are very childish though...
