haven't watched the fight front to back but i saw the first 3 rounds and the last round.. i think Sergei can learn from last nights fight and continue to thrive in the division.. he's got talent, that's undeniable.. i feel bad for him but he did make a mistake in keeping within Briggs range of power.. like i said, i think its a learning experience for himComment

first time I've ever agreed with you. going into the 12th, I said neither guy deserved to win and that somebody should go for broke. nobody even went for broke really. briggs just times sergei and cracked him good, followed up correctly, and got the win. funny fight with a funnier ending.Good end for that fight. Briggs finally punched which is sort of the basis of boxing and won by KO.
Serguei Lyakhovich did not deserve the win going into the 12th round but neither did Briggs.
The last 15 seconds decided the fight and rightfully so when throughout the fight it was clear Lyakhovich feared Briggs power.
Briggs was smart fighting judiciously to conserve his energy and Lyakhovich made it easy for him to do so.
Other opponents will wear Briggs down until exhaustion sets in and then finish him.
Sidenote: Kenny Weldon is the only reason Lyakhovich won the fight against Brewster. Also he is the only reason going into the 12th round Lyakhovich was winning the fight on the judges card.
Kenny Weldon is a great trainer who any prospect should jump at the chance to be trained by. The evidence is clear how he could take Lyakhovich a "B" class fighter and train him to put out just enough to win and almost win a second time vs two "A" class fighters.Comment

"how is the division bad just because its evenly matched?.."
They - and the whore US media love to say that the heavyweight division is so bad because - and it's really not hard to figure it out! - the White man now rules it again after all these years. And don't worry, steroid boy briggs here will be champ for the duration only one single fight, that's all.

Lyakhovich was winning the fight. It was a slow paced fight but he was ahead on all scorecards. Was it me or did he seem really out of shape? really soft body
I spotted that before the fight. He looked f'ing weak and "soft around the middle", like Stacy Keach said in "Fat City".
while briggs looked real hard.
Looked like a blimped up steroid advertisement to me.
He did win the fight untill the last 30 sec. some credit is due
He did, and he did it because Ly. ignored his trainer and fought like a total idiot - and he looked like a feeble shadow of his former self. wonder if there is some more to this story that we don't know about...
The crooked world of don king boxing...its secrets don't bear to see the light of day.

I don't know what was wrong with Liakhovich last night but he fought like a total idiot. Briggs was countering him all night and Liakhovich could not adjust to that and stopped throwing altogether. After the first knock down, he should have grabbed Briggs and not let go until the ref would have to tear them apart. Strange fight on his part. Briggs was everything anybody expected of him.Comment

Compared to the Shannon Briggs of last night, Samuel Peter looks like Henry Armstrong. I have never before seen such a terrible display of conditioning. Briggs simply has the worst stamina in heavyweight history. Basically by the 3rd round he was gasping for breath after having thrown maybe a total of 50 punches by that time. He hurt Sergei in the first, and then threw something like six or seven punches to try to take him out but had to give up because the effort clearly exhausted him.
Sergei wasn't in great shape either and was not the same guy who beat Brewster. From the begining he looked subdued and depressed and did not want to be there. Mentally he wasn't in any shape to defend his title IMO.
I give credit to Briggs for doing what he had to to win but Wladimir Klitschko would have taken both men out last night, in a round or two each. Wlad must have been drooling as he watched the fight last night. Briggs and Maskaev are two easy fights for him. Only Valuev will offer any kind of resistance. At first glance it looks as if we Americans have a chance at unification now but really it's just set things up for Wlad to make a clean sweep.
The one thing standing between Wlad and the unified title is boxing politics. He will go through these title holders like a pig through ****.
Only thing I might disagree with you is Maskaev and Valuev. I think that Maskaev is much the better. Also, that bit about Ly. looking strangely depressed and subdued reminded me of how strangely depressed and subdued Maskaev looked before the Kirk Johnson fight - the Kirk Johnson fight for which the so-called Russian Mafiya was forcing him to take a dive.
