Boring thread about mayweather, my theory as to why he is so disliked

it shouldn't be a nationalistic thing unless we are talking about the olympics.

if you have skills, an infectious personality, and a decent promoter, then you will likely become bigger and bigger.

repping one country or another will only serve to divide boxing fans. i would take a worldwide base of fans over a fan base on a national level any day.

that's just one reason i like wladimir klitschko. anywhere he goes is his home. he tries to appeal to all boxing fans. that's one of the reasons why he has a lot of fans all over the world.

It should be a nationalistic thing because its World championship boxing not the National Boxing League.

There has to be risk to add tension and suspense, shame to the looser and bragging rights to the winner. Thats what other major sports bank on like the world cup which to many is the definitive sporting event of the world.

Why would a guy from New York flipping through the channels care if a fighter representing Los Angeles is fighting a fighter representing Las Vegas and the top honor in boxing is World champion. If the guy from LA looses or wins, what did the spectator win or loose? Nothing. Makes it emotionless to many.

How about if that same guy from New York was flipping through the channels and it was a fighter representing the United States fighting a fighter representing Mexico. All of a sudden if the fighter representing the US wins he gains pride, if not he looses some pride. But that pride is at risk during the fight its what brings on excitement, suspense, and emotions.

Just like when ur a niner fan and ur buddy is a raider fan.... the game is exciting because at the end of the day looser has to eat crow while the winner feels exactly like that... like a winner like a part of the winning team.

1. Floyd could care less if you like him or hate him. In his 3rd or 4th pro bout he said he doesnt mind he will play either role the bad or good guy as long as he puts butts in the seats.

2. His PPV numbers are on par with RJJ and not to far behind other popular fighters so its not really hurting him.

3.the only reason Oscar does out of this world numbers and is a cross over star is because of his Olympic success and the media coverage behind the story of his mom who died. The media took that story and ran with it and covered boxing a lot more than i have ever seen it covered in the Olympics. Floyd will never have that and thus will never be as popular.

4. Who cares about his personality why in the hell do you people even care? I like watching him fight I could care less how flashy and flamboyant or arrogant he is. Other fighters in the past were just as flashy and Flamboyant but people loved them becasue they were heros they made it in a world that shunned them based on race and where they were from. Floyd doesnt have that either. All Floyd has to bank on really is his Skills and the things he says that make people take notice to him. He is doing really well with what he has to work with so hate it or love it he is still gonna be Flashy Flamboyant ego-centric Pretty Boy Floyd. I love it for one cause its makin all you haters Mad.

For some reason some people seem to forget that Delahoya used to attack you with a quickness and if he noticed you were hurt, say good bye. Delahoya could have been an even more dangerous fighter, but too many trainers wanted him to box, imo though he has a great left hook and jab and right hand, he never really developed this as he could have because he was always trying to be well rounded and well now that i think of it, it worked for him. But his power could have been doubled if he had trainers focous more on his power instead of his boxing skills. But at the end he ended up with a bit of both, so it worked out for him. Oh, and laides loved Delahoya, like no fighter before or after, that was not somthing the media brought, Delahoya just has cross over appeal as they say.

that's my point - world champion boxing, not national championship boxing. fighters from every country can compete, however, i personally don't see that translated as country vs country. i do know that a lot of people do though. but to me, it doesn't make a difference. when i watch boxing, i only see 2 guys in a ring.

if you feel that you need to add country vs country specifically to add excitement for you, fine. i am perfectly fine with the tension between 2 guys not wanting to get thier asses kicked.

the fact that amatuer boxing was payed far more attention to in that time coupled with the fact that oscar was very good, as well as his mother dying not to mention his winning the gold medal helped him, he also was getting major money from his first pro fight and on from then on, his first fight he was commanding like 80k if i remember correctly, from his FIRST fight. none of this "oh he ducked no one" ****, oscar was in the money the moment he won the gold like no other fighter in history.

i think Floyd needs a real name Nemesis or two to really get the respect he rightly or wrongly deserves. The question is, are their any fighters that can really really test his unquestionable skills...please dont mention Castillo 1, that was a close fight that Floyd won and it wasn't awe inspiring i think he needs a couple of real blood and guts wars..this is what really makes fighters truly great, its what people remember. His arrogance is also annoying because people think "yeah your good but what have you done so far" He has won titles at lots of different weights in an ordinary fashion instead of extrordinary.
