Ibragimov had unfinished business with Ray Austin but I guess he's switched to the WBO. Sultan is a gutsy game fighter who's worth a shot maybe in the days of 4 titleists. Someone's got to fight for all the versions and Sultan vs the winner is a decent fight regardless. -
This is just one of the fews reasons why I cannot stand this guy. WTF, Ibragimov has only fought once in 2006 and he didn't even win! He has only 20 professional fights under his belt and hasn't beaten anyone of note to deserve a title shot. Lastly, I hate when fighters are content waiting months and months on end for a title shot they do not deserve.HOLLYWOOD, FL – At the 19th annual WBO convention, held on the cruise ship Enchantment of the Seas, the sanctioning body’s Championship Committee reconfirmed to Seminole Warriors Boxing’s Lourdes Carrero and our promotional partners Eric Gomez from Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Lewkowicz that unbeaten heavyweight sensation Sultan Ibragimov, as the WBO’s mandatory challenger, will get a shot at the winner of Saturday’s bout between champion Sergei Liakhovich and challenger Shannon Briggs within 90 days. Look at James Toney, he could have waited for Maskaev but instead he took a huge risk in fighting Sam Peter. Even though I'm not a huge Toney fan I respect him big time for doing that.
IMO, Ibragimov doesn't deserve any respect.Comment

Take a look at Barret/Valuev, although Barret has been around longer, he still did not deserve a title shot. Thats boxing unfortunately. And if ya think about it, Briggs doesnt deserve a shot, nor DID Sergei either. This is just one of the fews reasons why I cannot stand this guy. i think people have lost sight of your last point completely
sergei was grandfathered in as the #15 challenger to make him acceptable as an optional defense....
i remember people talking about sergei was just the next white boy on brewsters listComment

Liakhovich TKO Ibragimov within 8. If Ibragimov couldn't do anything against Austin, Liakhovich should handle him easily. If he gets past Briggs, that is. I think fight with Briggs will be a real test for Sergei, if he wins, he'll have to fight Wlad.Comment

Ibragimov awaits winner!
NUMBER ONE CONTENDER READY
At the 19th annual WBO convention, held on the cruise ship Enchantment of the Seas, the sanctioning body’s Championship Committee reconfirmed to Seminole Warriors Boxing’s Lourdes Carrero and our promotional partners Eric Gomez from Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Lewkowicz that unbeaten heavyweight sensation Sultan Ibragimov, as the WBO’s mandatory challenger, will get a shot at the winner of Saturday’s bout between champion Sergei Liakhovich and challenger Shannon Briggs within 90 days. Once the bout between Liakhovich and Briggs is over, both parties will have until the middle of November to reach a deal with a site and date for the fight. If a deal cannot be reached, a purse bid will take place at the WBO offices in Puerto Rico on November 16, 2006. Said Ibragimov, “I am eagerly awaiting the result of Saturday night’s fight, but no matter who wins, I am prepared to challenge the winner and become the new WBO heavyweight champion of the world.”

Ibragimov is one of the five most talented guys in the division so of course I want to see him fight for a title. Ray Austin is a spoiler who would give anyone but Wlad a tough night and Ibragimov had trouble adjusting to his style. It happens, but doesn't mean Ibragimov is any worse than he was when he fought Austin.
Ibragimov would beat Briggs but I'm not sure if he's ready for Liakhovich yet. I would pick Ibragimov over Maskaev though. Maybe he can outbox Peter as well. Wlad would eat him up at this point. Valuev, well I have no ****ing idea what would happen in that fight. I won't say anything about Valuev right now; the guy looks beatable but keeps winning.
Ibragimov will be on of the key players in the future, either the unified champ or a Jerry Quarry type top contender who will fight the best and win for many years. Guy has some kinks to work out of his style but on raw talent he is really up there.Comment
