Just saw it, it was pretty good.
Countdown to Mayweather-Baldomir begins at 12 AM EST

They basically did everything they could to sell it, saying it would be a hard fight because Baldomir was so big. Whatever it takes to sell it I guess.Comment

I thought the countdown was pretty good. And for all of you who think this fight shouldn't be hyped or that no **** Floyd is going to win, watch it again. The personal lifestyle **** was ******, but the other fight stuff was good. Baldomir will be the biggest, toughest, and strongest opponent Floyd will have faced by far. And it is a disadvantage for Floyd without Roger. The fight is dubbed, "Pretty Risky" for Mayweather. They did nuthug Mayweather for the majority of the countdown, but they also did talk about Baldomir for a fair amount of time. I think they should have talked more about the fight and their past fights rather than where they live and how Lampley and Mayweather talk during his fights. Overall, I'd say it was an acceptional countdown.Comment

I don't understand why people can't see this is to attract PPV buys for non boxing audiences. They try to add a compeling story to make people want to see this fight. Mayweather is relatively unknown outside of boxing circles even though he is a phenom/savant and Baldomir is a journeyman. HBO is trying to get the attention of the average audience.
People on here are slow to catch on.Comment

Popularity has to do with access also, and since Floyd fights on HBO and PPV, he is going to be less known...this is also why boxing is on the decline, but that is an obviousI don't understand why people can't see this is to attract PPV buys for non boxing audiences. Certain fighters, like Oscar, are able to luck out because of circumstances, like winning the Gold Medal and attracted women.Comment

If you knew boxing, you would know how INCREDIBLY HARD he has had to WORK to place him in the position that he is in now.How disgusting it was to see Floyd at his house. Obviously it's a documentary designed to get people interested in the fight, so it makes sense that they would show the different lifestyle each fighter has, but Floyd is just de****able. Did you guys all those shoes? He has HUNDREDS of goddamn sneakers. His cars, him bragging about having 10 bathrooms in his house; he has no regard for the poor of the world, he has no regard for anything except his own personal satisfaction and indulgence.Comment

Hard to say...it is like asking me what kind of flavor I like, chocolate, vanilla, lemon, caramel, etc. and telling me to make up my mind on one flavor and to forget about the rest...just thinking that I would have to limit myself to one, tends to go against my nature.
There are just so many that I like, from the past greats from ancient Greece who stories capture my imagination to the Greats of the 20th century like the Great Joe Louis.
I like each of my favorites for similar and different reasons, which is why I really am not sure who I would pick as my "Favorite"...My favorite as a kid was more limited, fighters like Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and Mike Tyson were the main favorites, but as I got older, I evolved.
If I have to give you one, I would lean towards Joe Louis...Not only do I have respect for his ability as a boxer, and that of a person (which like everybody had flaws), but I think having a Grandfather like so many others that fought in WWII and who himself had a tremendous amount of respect for the man, puts him at the top.
But even with Joe Louis, I watched more of Tyson than any other fighter so he has a place up there too, but like every other fighter he has his flaws and can be placed to the side for a short period so that I can pay attention to another, to learn about somebody I never knew all that much about...my favorites are the fighters that I can continue to go back to in order to see what boxing is "about", to the fighter that is not yet known and keeps me interested in the sport.
So, it is more about saying "Favorites" than "Favorite"Last edited by Abe Attell; 10-28-2006, 02:06 AM.Comment

FYI, I DO knock all those other celebrities (and any person who is so obssesed with material ****), but this is a boxing forum and the topic is about the countdown to Floyd-Baldomir, so why would I talk about other celebrities?Oh shut the **** up you ****ing hypocrit.
If you're going to knock Floyd for having hundreds of sneakers and having a huge house, please add about 1500 other celebrities that do the same. If he can afford it, then why not? Like if you were making millions and millions of dollars you wouldn't spoil yourself.
And you're saying that he has no regard for the poor? Perhaps you should see all the charity work he does in Grand Rapids you ****ing ignorant, double-standard holding prick.
Your calling me an ignorant hypocrite and a prick shows that YOU'RE the ignorant one up in here, I never once insulted you or anybody, I just stated an opinion about Floyd. Why you feel the need to defend him so much I do not understand. You make it seem like if I insulted your recently deceased mother or some ****. Getting so worked up and defensive over such a small thing makes you seem ignorant and immature.
If he can afford a comfortable house, then that's great for him, but having those hundreds of sneakers is just pure self-indulgence and materialism on his part. Why not spend that **** on books, art, or any other intellectually stimulating things, instead of just shoes? When a woman spends all that money on shoes she's immediately labeled a money-grubbing ho, but if Floyd Mayweather does it his fans jump out of nowhere to defend him by insulting other people. Classy.
Oh, and please tell me why I am a "double-standard holding prick"Comment

What he does with his money is none of your business or concern.Comment

I just commented on it. I'm not gonna go insult people who like Floyd or lose sleep thinking about how much I hate his actions.
I agree that people shouldn't care so much about what others do, but if I can't give my opinion on that because it's not my business, then when the **** is OK for ANYONE to give out ANY kind of opinion on ANYTHING not directly related to themselves?Comment
