As some on here have memtioned, Liakhovich fought a tougher fight against Brewster than he had to; he elected to slug. I suggest this was his desire to prove he was the best outweighing his trainer's efforts to get him to fight a smart fight. Now, whether he can deal with a boxer of Wladimir's calibre remains to be seen; but I give him a shot because of his doggedness.

i respect lyakoich for what he did, and i give him respect as the #2 guy without a doubt based on the lineage of who he beat..
the problem is this.....
brewster claims to have suffered his detached retina early in the fight.. and lyko landed an obscene amount of right hand leads against brewster that he could never hit wladamir with in a million years. i think brewsters injury had a lot to do with how the fight played out and i really want to see sergei beat another tough opponent before i get too excited about him....Comment

Klitschko-Liakhovich is the fight I want to see the most out of today's possible match-ups. I think Likahovich has more of a chance to beat Wlad than most people think and he would try to slag with Wlad from the beginning. It would be an entertaining fight IMO. If Liakhovich had Brewster on a ***** street, he's got enough power to make it a very dangerous fight for Wlad.Comment

No doubt the detached retina could have been a factor; but Brewster never was a great technician, even with two good eyes.i respect lyakoich for what he did, and i give him respect as the #2 guy without a doubt based on the lineage of who he beat..

Either way, we'll see....I hope.Comment

There is little doubt that Klitschko is vulnerable, but I am not so sure that Liakhovich is the right man to exploit these vulnerabilities. Did you see him blunder against Brewster? For example, leading with a right to the body? I suspect Klitschko is clever enough to make him pay for it.Comment

In fairness, though, Brewster never made Liakhovich pay for that right to the body, so why quit using an effective weapon? There is little doubt that Klitschko is vulnerable, but I am not so sure that Liakhovich is the right man to exploit these vulnerabilities. If he fights Wlad and gets caught with one of his counter hooks, provided he survives, odds are he won't do it again.Comment

If Sergei gets past Briggs, I will get excited about him and will not consider Wlad THE champ until two meet. By the way, Brewster didn't look like a man with detached retina late in the fight, he was had Liakhovich in trouble in 7th round with pretty precise shots.i respect lyakoich for what he did, and i give him respect as the #2 guy without a doubt based on the lineage of who he beat..

I think the retina thing was a bogus excuse. Sergei is the man to beat after that fight, if he would only be more active.Comment
-
i dont think its bogus, maybe saying it happened in the 1st in bogus, but he was most definately injured.
the amount of right hand leads landed by lyko just has to be indicative of brewster having a very hard time picking it up....
someone stated above that brewster wasnt fighting like an injured man late in the fight and thats just not true
he was fighting very much like a beaten man who knew he had a small window left to get a KO without which he was going to clearly lose. brewster has heart and he sold out to try and get the win, but that doesent mean he was doing it with 20/20 vision.Comment

"If Sergei gets past Briggs...."
Good point! It is not clear to me that he will get past Briggs. Liakhovich is easy to hit and I have no doubt that Briggs is going to hit him. The question is can he endure enough punishment before Briggs runs out of gas?Comment
