To Tell The Truth; The Heavyweight Champ

There was a TV game show that was very popular in the 1950’s called “To Tell The Truth”. The show has survived in various forms over the years and has been reincarnated several times.

The basic premise of the show consisted of three contestants, each of whom claimed to be the same person (let’s say in this case the heavyweight champion) being interrogated by a panel of celebrities in an attempt to identify who was the real heavyweight champion and who was bluffing. The contestant in question usually held an unusual occupation or had done something noteworthy. (Like winning the heavyweight championship)

After each celebrity had a turn to question the contestants, they each voted as to who they thought the real heavyweight champion was. When this process of question and answer was completed, the moderator would ask in a deep voice, “Will the real heavyweight champion please stand up?”

The real heavyweight champion would then stand up and the other two would reveal who they really were, and money was awarded to the contestants based on how many incorrect votes were placed.

For my money, and to tell the truth, I think Wladimir Klitschko is the real heavyweight champion of the world. Of the four claiming to be heavyweight champ, the other three being Nicolay Valuev (WBA), Oleg Maskaev (WBC) and Sergei Liakhovich (WBO) I feel that Klitschko has accomplished more than the other three and that his ability as a fighter exceeds the rest. While I agree that Klitschko is probably the best Heavyweight on the planet, he is not the World Heavyweight Champion. There is none.

For there to be a True World Heavyweight Champion, the two best heavies should fight. Who's the best Heavy is up for grabs, as is the second....thank you sancioning bodies!!

For my money, Sergei Liakhovich is the second best. Liakhovich beat Brewster, who beat Klitschko.

Also, Brewster blew Golota out of the water, while Byrd barely managed a draw against teh same man.....and John Ruiz barely got a win over Golota when the WBA strap was his. This means that when Byrd, Ruiz, and Brewster ruled the roost, Brewster was the more dominant champion and deserved to be, at the very least, # 2.

Also, when Ruiz lost to Toney, roids or not, he lost some credibility. Roids don't make you box better, skill does. So, while Toney disqualified himself through his illegal substance use, Jawney through himself out of respectability...if he was ever there....by losing to Toney.

This leave us Chris Byrd and Lamon Brewster, since Vitali retired...leaving us with two very good candidates for Heavyweight supremacy. Brewster beat Klitschko, Klitschko beats Byrd, Liakhovich beats Brewster = Liakhovich has as much claim to the title as Klitschko.....or at least is close enough for the Ultimate, Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship to be decided by these two meeting.

Klitschko vs Liakhovich must happen......then, we'll have a True Champ, IMHO.

Great post but I have given away too much karma. Who do you think wins between Klitschko and Liakhovich, I pick Sergei myself.

NICE POST KK... I think the reason most people give WLAD the NOD over Liakohvich is simply experience and RESUME..

....one good fight and it wasn't all that good. I don't see why he had to go toe-to-toe with Brewster considering Brewster isn't all that hard to box. If Liakhovich can't exploit Brewster's weaknesses, I find it hard to believe that he will figure out how to beat Klitschko.

possibly to prove he COULD go toe to toe with brewster, poeple were questioning his chin before the fight.........guess he showed us that he can fight both insude and outside and that he has a good chin
