In a recent article by Brian Doogan for the Times Online, Doogan quotes Sugar Ray Leonard from a recent boxing awards dinner in Vegas. Sugar Ray, talked openly about the way Floyd Mayweather Jr., acted and treated him at the event.

The Legendary Sugar Ray said he was approached by Mayweather Jr., and Mayweather Jr. began to berate him for losing to a lightweight (another legend, Roberto Duran) when he was in his prime. Sugar Ray recalls at that time smiling
    and shaking his head ruefully.

Sugar Ray said: “He said, ‘Ray, you know, if you were in my era you wouldn’t be in the top 10’.

Sugar Ray had compliments and strong advice for Mayweather Jr., adding: “Of all the fighters today, I have to say that Mayweather reminds me the most of me. The kid has every gift and physical attribute, but if he continues to be the type of person he is, he’ll never be up there with us. He’ll never make it."

i took this from boxden....who took it from dog house....

I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. should step up and be a Man: he claims he is the best in boxing, prove yourself by fighting someone like Wlad...he could even fight Tua, who hasn't looked good in years, I will be OK with that

Even though Floyd is a defensive fighter in no way does he beat or outshine Leonard. I'll take Leonard any day over PBF.

Prime Tommy Hearns would have completley destroyed Mayweather, and Ray TKO'd him so I think Floyd just has no reason to talk **** about how Leonard was as a champion and what not.

Yeah, I think Hearns and Leonard (two all-time greats that started at welterweight) would beat Mayweather (who started at 130)...

You know, I never would have thought that Floyd would actually disrespect old legends like that in front of their face. I guess he really does think he's better than Ali and SRR.

The bold... Ray called it perfectly.

And if Duran, Hearns, Hagler, Benitez, etc; you know- guys that Ray fought in his era were calling for fights with Floyd in his, Money May would've been in a career long 'vacation'

SLR fought ATG's. Duran is a top 10 ATG's. none of Floyd opponents would even make it to top 100 all time.

why compare the two if the only comparison is that they are both african american boxer?

4 years later of this thread has been made.

Who would know back then that floyd would duck a career featherweight and accuse him of PEDS and when they finally agree that he rather go on vacation.

Yes duran was a career lightweight who was very competitive at the higher weight class. Duran was doing back then what pacquaio is doing now. And we all know floyd would accuse duran with peds and go on vacation.

                      Nice digging up this thread.

Naw where the hell are those *****s who keeps saying floyd is just playing the bad guy here. Was he role playing here also just in case there's a matchup between him and SRL on paper?

LOLers floydie, he's always been a fraud before, now and later.
