I'd Hate to Say I told you So....

But I did. I called Maskaevs win over Rahman, I told everyone on the boards at the time that Oleg Maskaev was a threat in the heavyweight division, and I recall everyone saying, "he hasn't fought anyone in the last 2 years." When Maskaev ko'ed Rahman for the first time, people thought fluke, and figured he'd never do it again because he was out of his prime. However, when he was embarassing opponents, like Livin Castillo (TKO'ed in 3) and Sinan Samil Sam (UD) nobody saw him coming. I'm not trying to be ****y, just stating that I was not being biased when I foretold of Maskaevs championship mission. He is my favorite current heavyweight, that is until Andrew Golota decides to start punching again, but that's a different story.

Golota is finished. He will never mentally be able to handle a fight. He will never be in the top. Oleg IMO will never be able to beat Top opposition. Lets see.....got KO'ed by Oliver Mcall, David Tua, Kirk Johnson, and Corey Sanders. Everytime he has stepped up to the plate he's gotten knocked out. I hate to say I told you so...............

All, in their prime, respectable opponents, Tua really did a number on Ruiz, I think we all remember that. However, Golota handled himself like a champion against Ruiz, who he beat in my opinion, and against Byrd. I think if he could stop self-destructing, he could be, and should be a heavyweight champion.

Maskaev could beat any heavyweight in the game as of now, I think he wouldn't have a problem with Wlad, Byrd, Ruiz, Valuev, and I think he could have manhandled Vitali if it came down to it. Rumor has it, Maskaev beat Klitschko pretty bad back in the Olympics or Amateurs or something.

I'm sorry I disagree . Oleg hasn't fought top opposition in 7 plus years expect Rahman and like I said He's been knocked out by guys that weren't even top fighters. He would have trouble with Wlad. I think you;ve forgotten who he's been training with and how good he's looked since piicking up Steward has his trainer. I think Samuel Peter would lay his ass out.

I heard Oleg stopped Vitali in the Amateurs. You can throw out the McCall and Tua loss( in a fight Maskaev was winning if I recall correctly) He never should have been fighting them that early in his career. I agree that Oleg has the tools to beat any heavyweight now that he has his confidence back after bad losses starting with that lucky hook by Johnson who was scared ****less. How many guys could have came back winning after those bad losses. That has to say something for the guy.

I agree that maybe Oleg shouldn't have been fighting Tua or McCall that early in his career. But Johnson was 29-0 with 21 KO's going into that fight. I don't think it was a lucky punch. I'll give him credit for staying strong and being impressive in a division that hasn't lately.

Oleg is one of the worst managed fighters in history. In his pro debut he fought a guy that was like 26-1. Johnson was scared to death of Oleg in that fight and got lucky. I am standing by that.

The guy he fought in his pro debut fought 4 guys that had winning records up to his fight with Oleg. eight of who were making pro debuts and the others all had losing records. Maybe he was managed horribly. But in boxing I don't ever think there is a lucky punch. What's considered a lucky punch? if you get Knocked by a punch that's what it is. I'm standing by that. I generally agree with all your postings and I respect your knowledge for the game but I just don't believe in lucky punches in boxing.
