there was actually a study done, not sure how accurate, that said the majority of people that use them first, are the ones with the most insecurities...then it goes up from there...it is the Fear that they can't compete with those superior...guys that are "Naturally" "Gentic Freaks" are less likely to take them because they have a Narcistic view of their bodies and think they are above all.
Ex: Somebody like Bo Jackson is considered this: When he was in high-school he was already over 200 pounds solid muscle...when he went to college, he was around 220 pounds and ran like a race-horse...when the college Coach wanted him to lift weights, Bo said "I don't lift"...the coach wanted him to, but Bo refused...it took some time, but the coach convinced Bo to just do the bench press so they could get an idea of how strong he was and if he needed any work...so Bo agree, lifted a vast amount, surprised everybody around him, and said "I'm done"...supposedly never lifted again till he turned pro, and not sure exactly when.
Bo said when he was younger he thought that lifting weights is something that "weak" people do, all he needed was to practice and warm-up by doing sprints...When he got injured he changed his mind about things because he also didn't stretch properly.
Jim Brown was another athlete that never lifted, at least not with the team...it doesn't mean he didn't workout in other ways, but he might have not with weights.
Foreman was also another and can name some more
