    Hopkins Legacy: Calzaghe or Maskaev?

With Hopkins hinting of coming out of retirement, what fight would further or better his legacy? Calzaghe or Maskaev?

IMO, hands down, a win over undefeated super middleweight Joe Calzaghe would be huge in defining Hopkins HOF career and legacy. Plus, by all accounts this would be a "super fight" and a matchup many boxing fans today would love to see.

On the other hand, a win(and hopefully dominating performance) over Maskaev would be impressive but not unprecedented(RJJ) and surely not as big a win over Calzaghe.

Thoughts on Hopkins' legacy and who you would want to see him fight.

I would rather see him fight Calzaghe...........This moving up to HW talk is silly IMO.

      Calzaghe, without a doubt.

He actually has a good chance of winning, too.

You have a point. Calzaghe is big right now and an impressive performance on Saturday will only improve his standing in the opinion of boxing fans. A win over him would do more for Hopkins than the Tarver fight did, since (as far as I remember) Tarver was never rated as highly as Calzaghe is right now.
Maskaev on the other hand, although I favor him to win, is not a really great fighter and has lost to some relatively mediocre opposition, if we make an exception for the weight differences.

a third divisional title from calzone would be big, having that third title be a HW title would also be very big, but over maskaev, not so much.

i suggest hopkins stay retired. he doesnt need calzone, calzone needs him. and moving up to HW is just ******.

Exactly!!! JC needs Hopkins to try to cement his legacy. Hopkins should stay retired because he needs neither of them. JC should try to get a fight with Taylor & Tarver to cement his own.

I know beating the HW champ looks good on paper.. but like someone already said.. It's been done.. Calzaghe and B-Hop would also look good on paper.. but I am not so sure their styles would match up well in the ring.. but it's still the prefered fight in my mind.. I think Calzaghe would stand to gain AND lose more than B-HOP...

he should fight maskaev because he can beat him. calzaghe would finish hopkins once and for all.

Even if Calzaghe did beat Hopkins, his win would be discredited as Hopkins is an old man on the brink of retirement, and if it was close, it'd get held against him, ala Ricky Hatton/Luis Collazo.

Easy choice HOPKINS Vs Calzaghe would be one off the biggest fights off the last decade, the best middleweight off the last decade vs the best super middleweight off the decade what a battle, champ vs champ
