Here are some....some have already been mentioned.

    1. Louis vs Schmeling II...global implications

    2. Johnson vs Jeffries....solidifies Johnson as the first Black man to win the world title...Johnson-Burns could also fit this category; but Burns wasn't looked at as the "real champion" by some because no one had beaten Jeffries, and Marvin Hart, the man Burns won the title from, had beaten Jack Root, the Lt Heavyweight Champion for the vacant title.

    3. Ali vs Frazier I...the whole world watched this fight, both were undefeated, both had legitimate claims to the title, both were essentially in their primes, the U.S. was split on who to root for on political ideals: the hippies and black power youth were behind Ali, the pro-war movement behind Frazier.

    4. Corbett vs Sullivan....first official contest under modern rules, London Prize Ring Rules were dead forever.

    5. Foreman vs Moorer....Oldest man to win the lineal championship, longest time between title reigns

    6. Patterson vs Johanson II...first man to regain heavyweight championship

    7. Patterson vs Moore....he's still the youngest to have one undisputed honors....greatest age gap in a heavyweight championship bout; 21 years...More was 42, Patterson 21.

    8. Ali vs Spinks II....only man to win lineal title three times.

    9. Dempsey vs Carpantier....first million dollar gate....fist world championship sponsored by a sanctioning body, NBA.

    10. Lewis vs Briggs/Holyfield II......first Englishman to win the lineal/undisputed world championship in 100 + years.

    11. Carnera vs Loughran.....biggest size differential in a world heavyweight championship bout.

    12. Moorer vs Holyfield I.....first southpaw to win world heavyweight champiohship

    13. Douglas vs Tyson.....biggest upset in boxing history....this could rank higher

    14. Fitzsimmons vs Corbett...first former middleweight champion to win world heavyweight honors

    15. Spinks vs Holmes I....fist reigning light-heavyweight champion to win World heavyweight championship.

Braddock-Baer was a good example of a significant fight that gave alot of people hope. I agree with all yours and the reading I have done about Jack Johnson had most of the country clamoring for Jeffries to come out of retirement for this fight.

It was billed as the "Fight of the Century" and Reno's population in the days leading up to the fight and right afterwards exploded. President Roosevelt was said to have been keeping up with the fight via morse code reports...and cursed when Johnson knocked Jeffries out.
