Yeah, Marciano turned pro around 28 or so, give or take around 6 years or so.
I mentioned Valdes because if I remember he was a good sized heavyweight for the '50's. I could be wrong. I have seen wanted posters Moore made before the fight was signed, calling out the Rock.

There is some debate rather or not Marciano has 49 or 50 wins. I'm not sure if the debate is still going on but from what I hear, they are still considering it

It is true that Nino Valdes was a little bigger than the average heavyweight back in those days, but he certainly wasn't better. Archie Moore easily beat him on points. There is little doubt that Marciano would have had less problems with him than he had with Moore who was an excellent boxer.

He was disqualified for kneeing a guy in the groin in an early fight. He wasn't actually undefeated. He didn't continue fighting because he had a bad back and was afraid it would give out in the ring. He wasn't making the big bucks like they do nowadays. No reason to hang around....

49-0 just isn't that impressive when J.C.C went 89-0 before losing or Sugar Ray Robinson went 127-1 before losing...
