i wasn't saying that Mora was on a world class level, and i wasn't trying to associate him in that category.
i think Vargas is done and if he does beat anyone i think that it will be sub par opposition. if he did or were to beat Mora or someone who is one the rise, then i would give him credit but i would still be very doubtful about him resuming his boxing career. the same way i am about his career now. i think he's a shot fighter damaged goods.
and the thing about that is, Vargas might have a lot more in his tank, but the way he is being promoted and the way they are going to match him, he's going to be exploited.
kind of like the latter half of Tysons career. where they should've taken it easier on Tyson and built up his confidence fighting guys his size and taking the comeback road slow and easy, instead they tried to cash in on his name and make everything tyson did a ppv big money event. matching him against guys too big for a fragile lack of cofidence having fighter. even though the guys weren't on Tysons level so to speak, they had a advantage on Tyson with their size. but that's another case, it was bad match making.
and i think that's what they're doing and going to do further with Vargas, is match him up bad and try and cash in on his name. going for the buck instead of rehabilitating his career and mental state. and with that kind of management i wouldn't count on Vargas to do much in any of his fights to come, damn near no matter who he fights.........
First things first. Good post.
I too think Vargas should retire while he is still healthy. He enjoyed a great career and fought all of the best and came up short only against top level competition. His back problems also contribute to his declining performance at the top level but that is another story all together.
I actually thought he was brought along at a good pace after the Delahoya loss, the rebuilding of his career as you call it. He fought 3 Cans in Vanderpool, Marshall and Joval then went on to fight Javier Castillejo who is a well recognized, tough and credible opponent. He beat him rather easily then fought Mosley in a very close fight before it got stopped because of the eye. The second Mosley fight was a disaster I admit. He looked lethargic ,slow and weak. No excuses though he got Knocked out and thats that.
He should retire but I dont think he will. He is still a huge draw and many fans will tune in just to see what happens.Comment

I still refuse to accept that Fernando is COMPLETELY shot. Yes, he looked HORRIBLE on his second fight with Shane, but as Dino said, that may be the draining. The reason why I don't accept he is totally shot is his first fight with Shane. Even though that was over half a year ago, he was in the fight and it was pretty much even. In the second fight he barely let his hands go, so that may be the weight issue. We'll see. I still pick him over Mora, and saying that he couldn't KO a 7th grader is totally unfair and disrespectful to a man who gave some of the best fighters of his generation extremely tough fights. A 1999 Vargas KO's Mora in one ****in round.Comment

great post. Vargas is not really shot. But he hasn't been the same since the steriods issue and back problems. But vargas right now will still beat a weak puncher with 4 ko in mora.I still refuse to accept that Fernando is COMPLETELY shot. Fernando 'glass jaw' Vargas should retire.
He is no longer a world class fighter and doesn't deserve another big money fight.
Any up and coming fighter looking to put a 'name' on his or her resume should consider fighting Vargas.Comment
