this would be rediculous if the scoring was very close but it wasnt't. The reason why this is happening is because the score 116-111 was obviously outragious. I don't even think many people that think peter won would agree with that. I'm happy there's a rematch the last fight was an exciting hw fight with hardly any clinching

Let me first say that everyone has their own opinion, and I have no problem with that. And unless your an idiot you shouldn't either. So anyone who is pissed that Toney is getting a rematch, theres nothing wrong with that. With that said, HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I personally am very happy James is getting second chance at Peter. I feel Toney did beat Peter the first time(so did alot of other people), and the only way to settle the dispute properly is a rematch. Now we will most likely find out who really deserves that title shot. Plus considering the first fight was entertaining, I'm excited to watch the rematch. It should be another great fight, alot more exciting than Maskaev vs. Peter in my opinion.

I can't believe there are people upset with this.

Maskaev's being allowed a BS defense in Russia, so Peter can't fight him anytime soon anyway.

The scores of 9 rounds to 3 for Peter in that fight were enough to label it a very contraversial fight, and it's no secret an overwhelming amount of fans and media thought Toney won.

A rematch would be a good call, especially with the WBC titled tied up with Maskaev's optional defense.

Even though I don't agree with the WBC's decision to order a rematch like the majority of posters on boxingscene, I think that this fight should happen because of all the questions Toney-Peter I left unanswered.

A rematch is intreguing because both fighters hopefully learnt alot from the first fight and will have to go into the second fight with a 'revised' fightplan.

For Toney; he needs to come into the fight in better shape(I know, same old story) and needs to stay busier throughout the fight and dominate Peter more than he did the first time.

For Peter; he needs be in better condition and he needs to throw more (accurate and straight!) jabs and hooks, and also should hit Toney more in the body.

All-in-all, I think this fight proves to be just as entertaining as the first one if not more.

I'll still pick Toney to win and he might even get the decision this time. Not a massive Toney fan but he makes me laugh.

                  here's the press release:

WBC Approves Toney vs Peter Rematch

The WBC Board of Governors approved by a vote of 21 to 10 the immediate rematch between Samuel Peter and James Toney, after their first bout which Peter won by split decision on September 2 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The World Boxing Council has always supported the decisions made by its ring officials and it will continue to do so. This approval of a rematch in no way questions the decision of September 2.

There were several reasons why the WBC made this decision:

                  1. First, for having been an extremely close fight which divided the opinions of the media and fans. This rematch will clear the air and we will have an official undisputable challenger to our new champion Oleg Maskaev.

                  2. The WBC believes that at this moment there can not be a more interesting heavyweight fight than this rematch. There is a huge public demand for this rematch and it will be very good for the promoters, as well as the prestige and the importance of boxing in the world.

James Toney was No. 1 ranked official challenger and he had no need to fight anyone to gain the right to contend for the title. By choosing Samuel Peter, the highest rated boxer adopted a top-level sports decision and the WBC wishes that the official challenger be the winner of this rematch so nobody has doubts about it.

The World Boxing Council decided, however, that should a purse offer be necessary for this rematch, the purse will be divided 55 percent for Samuel Peter and 45 percent for James Toney.

Samuel Peter spoke with me about his respect for the decision made by the WBC; he also stated that even though he wants to fight for the title immediately, he will accept the rematch to show once again his merits to contend for the title.

The WBC invites all parties to kindly restrain from using a hard language in their public statements, since boxing is a sport for gentlemen and we all would like to keep it that way.

*btw, i'm all for this rematch, can't understand why so many people are complaining about this..

thats weak, more waste of time at the heavyweight division. We all know whats gonna happen, Toney is gonna come in over weight... again and then he is gonna get robbed .... again.

I think this is actually a pretty good situation for a rematch.
