Are we really going down the "Hopkins's career-defining wins were against blown-up little guys" route again?

I actually voted "no" to this thread, as of now. Be interesting to see what Joe does from now though...

You're not really disagreeing, are you? He's lost to every elite level MW he's fought, narrowly or not.

The Trinidad win holds no real merit. I'd rather have Calzaghe's wins over Eubank and a prime Reid than a past his prime, limited welterweight like Trinidad who'd done nothing at the weight.

Eubank showed in the Thompson fights that he had something left and he was weight-drained for most of his later fights anyway so he was still a good scalp. Calzaghe would have beaten any version of him anyway.

The fact is that Hopkins' resume was no stronger than Calzaghe's prior to the Tarver fight. All JC would need is a couple of wins over, say Mosley and Castillo and they'd be pretty much the same.

Trinidad was the favorite and was in his "prime" natural welterweight or not he was predicted to KO a 37 year old hopkins.

And why do you think that was? Maybe because Hopkins hadn't done anything of real merit and Trinidad was a name?

Which is my entire point. I cant take the trinidad win away from him. Even if its a "name" its a great name. If Baldomir KO's floyd november 4th, nobody is really gonna say "well floyd is a blown up 135lber" everyone will give baldomir all the credit in the world, as I myself would as well. The fact that he was smaller doesnt take away the victory. im sorry.

They would if Baldomir was European. I don't like Floyd but even I wouldn't compare him to Trinidad, someone like Corrales or Freitas would be more apt.
