There was a Lacy/Hopkins poll on another site about a year ago and Lacy won hands down - easily.

I checked back on some posts back in February, and you'd have thought Lacy was THE big thing. Forget Mayweather, forget Winky, forget Hopkins - Lacy was the man. Too big, too strong, too powerful and he going over there to knock over one of these overprotected fighters in Europe before being the star of boxing.

Didn't quite happen like that, did it. And maybe why the resentment is there towards Calzaghe.

Still, now we're in a situation where Calzaghe is still seen as a crap overpotected fighter, but Lacy is now reclassed as a bum. This despite beating some of the best SMWs out there, being an ex World champion and retaining that title several times. Some fools are even attempting to argue that Lacy would actually be competitive in any rematch (the mere prospect to me seems sick, but there we go). To those I simply say watch the fight again. I suspect neither really want it anyway, which is a good thing.

It's always been the way though. The yanks think that only fighters who fight over there all the time are worthy. Forget the fact that the likes of RJJ, Mayweather, Hopkins never fought outside their country - that's irrelevant of course - when the Euro's do it they're dodging. As for the crooked decisions excuse - works both ways as history tells us.

As for the Calzaghe fans still gloating about it, well you can't blame them can you. Written off as a no-hoper (and still disregarded as a top fighter) he absolutely busted your boy up. Some of us always knew he was that good. It's a shame no big name was lined up for next month, but given the circumstances and the other fights taking place then it's understandable. No excuses next mind (or in a few cases in the past), but this one was understandable.

One final rant - to the fool that thinks a fighter should go into a fight with a broken hand ... get a ****ing clue will you. Who in their right mind would go in the ring with someone capable of concussing you with only one working hand. That's just idiotic.

The problem I have is how the media and fans have a need to fill the void that was left by the past "greats" so as soon as someone shows decent skill and has an impressive win, he is all of a sudden the "2nd coming"...

He's a champ, pro boxer. He gotta sign to fight again ASAP. He beat a prospect/contender. He didn't beat anyone established and worldy recognized.
thats funny, cause before the fight the majority of americans who
post here, boxingscene staff & many renowned boxing figures thought
lacy was gonna ko the joe calzaghe the bum, who they believed had
never faced opposition like jeff "left my hook at home" lacy

Lacy's biggest win was Scott Pemberton/Omar Sheika/Robin Reid. Take your pick. None of them are great wins. Calzaghe and his fans can't go a day without mentioning the Lacy shut-out as though it even ranks up there with Mayweather's domination of Gatti. Newsflash: it doesn't. Fight the winner of Kessler-Beyer, who, without a doubt, will be a more proven fighter than Lacy was.

Lacy's most impressive W was against Vanderpool who was picked by many experts to beat Jeff Lacy, so you are wrong when you talk about Pemberton or Sheika or Ried... you are wrong, right?

Do you understand how things work? A reporter gets in front of Calzaghe and asks him a bunch of questions...are you following me? One of those questions refers to recent comments on how Jeff Lacy has once again called out your name? So Joe responds by saying basically that the fight will never happen and you Mr. Fuego make a thread that suggests Calzaghe is obsessed with his victory over Left Hook.

This is a very FUNNY subject.. I seem to remember about 1 American actaully giving Calzaghe a chance in this fight..(I was a memember of another site... but I imagine things were the same here) I heard everything from LACY has too much power, he is mini Mike Tyson, He is not just a slugger.. he can box..look at his amatuer record, Olympic medal.. Yada yada yada.. Whats so funny.. is that the man now has no FANS..And suddenley he was never that good? BULL**** AND YOU ALL KNOW IT.. you called a fight and got it totally wrong..Now instead of Giving Joe Calzaghe his props..In the name of self pride.. You deny Lacy.. FYI Calzaghe is an awesome boxer and just because y'all haven't had the priviledge of seeing most of his fights.. dosen't change the fact he could spank just about anyone within his weight range.. Boxing FAns are so frustrating sometimes..

So are fighters. I'd almost rather not have Calzaghe's and Roy Jones' instead of hearing them claim greatness without fighting the best
