Alright, somewhere inbetween about 4 sensible posts and plenty of ******ed ones is the truth.
Hatton is good. He is not and doesn't profess to be an All Time Great.
He has stated in various interviews that I have seen on this site that he will box for two to three more years.
He has also stated that he intends to stay down at 140.
He has stated that the only fight he would go back to 147 for is Mayweather and that he thinks the fight after Castillo (in the pipeline) would be the ideal time.
I point out that I am not some big fan of Hatton. I like his work ethic and personality but am a casual fan at best.
So the above points tell us that he is unlikely to take on DLH, Mosley, Margharito etc.
So that leaves Cotto, Castillo and Mayweather. Hatton mentioned all three in an interview posted by GeoffHayes. These three are all great fights and would be well worth watching. Will any of them beat Hatton? Maybe. Can all of them beat him? Possible.
Cotto- Has played a similar game to Hatton by keeping his weight low but is starting to look extremely strained to do so. At 140 he doesn't have enough in the bank after the weight drain. Hatton probably wins by TKO. If the fight is at 147 (and as Cotto will have only just moved up Hatton may take take the fight) then it will be much closer, a barnstormer fight and will come down to work rate and points. Hatton to nip it by 1 or 2.
Castillo- Another great fight and it's coming up next year by all accounts. A great toe to toe. Hatton will hurt the body more and pip it down the stretch.
Mayweather- A great fight at either 140 or 147. Too fast and clean, Mayweather will move, duck, dodge and pop to a points victory. Hatton wins only by going to the body and taking some of the starch out of Mayweather. Depends if Hatton can suck up punishment for whilst Floyd is not a major ****er Hatton will cut and will get hurt. Mayweather will beat Hatton in my opinion but I'll only put money on it when we get close to the fight.
I'm puzzled by those who hate Hatton. He has all the attributes of some of the most revered fighters in History. He is working class, humble, lives for his fans, gutsy and transcends his own basically fair God-given talent by sheer guts and determination. As I said, I'm not a huge fan of his (as I am of Duran, Robinson and a few others) but I see that he is a creditable man who doesn't just go into the trenches for a win. He starts there and lives there through training.
And to criticize a man who decides to stay in his own weight class just shows how much bull**** some of you guys will believe. Greats like Hopkins and Roy only jumped out of their weight class as they grew and only moved up for a one off swan song. Hatton is not a great. But he is a good fighter who wants to clear out his own division where Witter, Castillo, Cotto and Mayweather can still live if he chooses.
