but friggin meldrick threw 8 punch combos.. who does that?
reason he did so was because of volume over punching power. meldrick threw alot of flashy combos but with little avail. re: chavez fight for evidence of this.

Roy was a freak of nature!!! In terms of pure athletic ability, none of the other fighters should be mentioned with Roy. Just imagine if he had a better trainer.

You must've forgot(no pun intended) but Roy has thrown 26 punch combos and a 42 punch combo as a super middle-weight, dogg.

I say it is close between RJJ and Tyson, with me giving the edge slightly to tyson. People forget that Tyson was well under 6 ft tall fighting uphill against true heavy wghts but his incredible physical abilities (strength/speed/reflexes) allowed him to knock them (most of them) out with ease.

Tysons peak physically had to be in the 80s, 90s was more of his downfall. James Toney hands down is the most talented skilled boxer Ive ever seen fight. Mayweather is something special but James is the best pure fighter Ive ever watched. Throw back style, philly shell, best chin ever IMO, and devastating punching power and technique in his hay day. Even a 38 year old overweight James can take the biggest punches of the Heavyweight division. Truly something special in Boxing.

roy jones @ 160-168 was not only a boxing phenom, but also one of the most gifted natural athletes of that era. the fact that to have his speed and still be a "big" guy is even more impressive. roy showed the hand and footspeed that would've put lightweights to shame. and on top of that, at MW and SMW, roy had incredible punching power. his speed-power ratio was insane, even when he was shoeshining and not putting full leverage into shots he could KO people.

also, i think ike ibeabuchi, for a "big" heavyweight was someting else. at his best walking around 235, he had a tremendous physique, an iron jaw, and a workrate that dished out a punch output that rivaled even the light weight classes.

as far as today's current crop, it has to be floyd and jermain taylor. floyd is the perfect combination of god given talent and masterful boxing fundamentals. he's never too reliant on athleticism. plus you could put floyd at 130-135 in the same category as roy jones. also, as far as active fighters go, jermain taylor deserves some honorable mention. big, strong 160lber, but still has plenty of speed, and he could move a tank with his jab. he lacks many basic boxing skills, and is often described as fighting like an amateur, but that doesn't change the fact he was able to give a tough fight to the most fundamentally sound, and experienced boxers in his weight class; being b-hop and winky (despite who you may think actually won those fights). he was able to do that on natural talent alone, and that's gotta say something.
