Well, Hatton's got the better of the best amateurs in the world and the best professionals in the world. He's never lost at junior-welter in his life.
I think it's nationalistic.
Oh, I know that however I just dont see those skills when he is against good fighters. I dont see the Hatton versus Tackie in many other fights. If its something that he has chosen not to do or if its a skill set that has gone rusty due to it not being needed against 99% of his competition I dont know.
However while is not a dazzling slick boxer he has shown an ability to be a boxer puncher versus decent D-C+ level competition.
i see this fight for what it is ... a solid cotto win followed by floods of threads on how hattons win was much better and how hatton would destroy cotto because during the 2nd round the opponet hit cotto and cotto blinked so obviously hes got a soft chin and is ripe for an asswhoopin
please fools cotto is gonna destroy this guy just like he would hatton
Hatton hasn't needed to use all of his boxing skills yet.
I've seen footage of some of his amateur bouts in Bulgaria and I've seen him in the gym, and there is a lot that he hasn't shown or even needed to show. Hatton was percieved as being a skill-less brawler in the amateurs, it's because he was just able to blow away all opposition at national level and people didn't get to see his 'boxing' skills (when he fought internationally, he was forced to use his 'boxing' skills), but Paul Dunn (of the Sale West ABC) knew he was special after witnessing him out-box British champ Andy Holligan in the gym when he was 15. When Hatton first visited Billy Graham's gym in the summer of '96, Billy put him in there with Ensley Bingham and Steve Foster Jr and Ricky pretty much did as he pleased with them - Billy knew there and then that the kid was a very special talent and nothing like he was percieved.
It's still the same, and it's been like that all through his career. It really annoys me. The guy can do so much in that ring, and has shown on many occasions in his fights glimpses of his mastery, yet people either ignore it or just don't know what their looking for.
^^ That is my point if you re-read my post. I said I dont know if he hasn't used those skills that he previously demonstrated because he could just bull his way through 99% of his competition, hence not needing to use it for so long he will just have to re-polish it a get back to fundamentals in camp.
Or another possibility is that it looked more impressive against lesser competition and that it wont be affective versus better competition.
I just haven't seen Hatton look as polished as someone like Castillo who to me appears to be a more skilled aggressive fighter.
I dont consider Cotto a swarmer, I think of him more like a Corrales type boxer puncher who often mixes it up. Cotto has good talent, fights well going backwards, has good power and has shown these abilities versus D and recently C/C+.
This is the reason why I pick Cotto to beat Collazo. I haven't seen anything but aggressive inside fighting swarmer in the last couple of years. That has been enough against C level competition and older fighters who couldn't take the relentless pressure of Hatton. I just believe that young B level fighters will give Hatton problems and that A level fighters will beat him.
Nah, it might be Quintana-Cotto next, their seeing if Ukal will move out the way, which is complete bull**** when Cintron is fighting for another vacant.
