Talk of robbery needs to be rudely wrenched aside; there are felonies in boxing but no robberies. A fixed fight card would require a criminal conspiracy to commit fraud and that is not possible, it would require mass secrecy in a sport fuelled by gossip and loose lips.

What happened last Saturday was worse than a robbery. Toney got screwed out of what would have been consensually considered his finest win at heavyweight. In fact scratch that sentiment. Toney was not just screwed, he was the equivalent of a woman who made a date with a guy only for him to stand her up numerous times, call round to her house and seduce her, tell his friends about the tryst, post photos of it on the internet and then fail to call her and say thanks. Toney got screwed and the only people who respected him the next morning - judging by the forums on most boxing sites and the common consensus of the experts - are the fans who know that he controlled the fight with Sam Peter in a very expert way. Credit for a good, well written article. You've thought it out and responded eloquently to critics and supporters alike.
I'm not in complete agreement with you but respect your views and opinions. I look forward to your future articles.

I get annoyed by the partisans who scream and insult anyone whose viewpoint contradicts theirs. I suspect Kid Achilles might have a point but is now stuck in a slanging match. I thought the fight was close and either fighter could have edged it on the score cards with Toney's clean flurries and combos and Peter's thudding (and you can hear them) swings which DID connect in my opinion swaying judges either way. I disagree strongly with the poor scoring though. I thought the fight was close and both fighters surprised me by fighting better than I expected.

Such a shame that a good fight has ended in such controversy. I agree wholeheartedly with the article author's suggestions of booing the respective judges in future bouts and mounting a review panel for all controversial bouts retrospectively, not to overturn decisions but to penalize and then re-educate judges whose scoring is overwhelmingly evaluated as faulty.

News flash: if you hit someone on the shoulder or arm it counts as a scoring punch. If you were to knock someone down with a punch to the shoulder the knockdown would be legit, so how could you not count a punch to the arm or shoulder as a connecting punch?

Peter didn't land flush often but his glancing blows and punches to the arms and shoulders still moved Toney back and still allowed him to control the smaller weaker man at many points during the fight.

His glancing blows were more effective at pushing Toney back than Toney's best flush shots in fact.

Even if you score it for Toney, he by no means dominated.
You giveing too much credit to Peters.

Yes Toney should have won the fight but he didnt dominated Peters IMO because he gave away the last seconds of the round which most judges would remeber. you would probably remeber something 1 sec ago than something 3 min ago.

Another thing Peter is still makes many mistake. He stun Toney i remeber in the 5th he should try finishing him off. That is the dumbest think a puncher would have done is to give time for you oppenet to rest after he is stun.

As for Peters power i think its overated because i didnt see like a sound in none of his punch during the Toneys fight. This is the 2nd time i seen Peters one was a 4 rounder brodcasted at CSI. HE kept hitting in the neck back of the ear too much, nearly all of his punch except for his jabs.

As more as i want Toney to lost by KO. I gotta say that he won the fight.
